Heather Kidd, South Shropshire District Council: The Electorate Is Too Emotional And Must Be Ignored...
http://www.westmidlandsno.org.uk/wordpress/?p=127
And now Heather Kidd, leader of South Shropshire District Council, has decided to ignore the local electorate and go for the unitary authority option....
From the West Midlands NO! Campaign:
Heather Kidd the leader of the South Shropshire District Council:
“It looks like people in south Shropshire probably voted with their hearts rather than their heads - indeed quite a few have told me they did just that.”
In a recent poll to decide the future of the county’s local authorities despite 57 per cent of voters in the district being against the idea of a unitary council, and not even waiting for the results, the submission to the minister was dispatched on the day that the ballot closed, before the results were known.
Heather Kidd said she refuted “that” - it is not clear whether she refuted the submission was sent before the results were known or refuted that it was undemocratic. Not that Mrs Kidd worries much about democracy as she holds her seat on the council after winning the election unopposed, so nobody even had the chance to vote either for or against her.
As usual when the voice of the people go against the EU federalists they are to be ignored, and all the excuses that can be thought of are advanced for doing so. In this case Mrs Kidd argues:
“Surely, if there had been a massive groundswell of feeling against moving towards unitary status, more than 8,156 of our 34,368 voters - less than a quarter of them - would have ticked the ‘no’ box, as it were, and forwarded their vote to the Electoral Reform Society?"
Of course the alternative argument is that if the people had been keen on a unitary council there would have had been a massive groundswell of feeling for moving towards unitary status and voters would have ticked the ‘Yes’ box.
http://www.westmidlandsno.org.uk/wordpress/?p=135
Heather Kidd, Dictator General! WHO told her that they voted with their heart? And surely people are entitled to feel emotionally engaged about how their community is governed?
My dear old auntie Florrie always voted for Neil Kinnock because she liked his accent. People vote for all sorts of reasons. But their views are not usually negated and ignored.
Ruth Kelly, meanwhile, dictates that the status quo is not an option. And yet New Labour brags that it brings decision making closer to the people. This will certainly not!
On a local and national level, the fight for the restoration of democratic rule in England continues.
The likes of Heather Kidd should resign in shame.

Andrew Neil - Purveyor of Truth, Meets Harriet Harman - Purveyor of Old Cobblers...
Well I happen to know that in Scotland they have absolutely no plans to introduce classes on Britishness, not now, not for the next 5 years….
The halo on St Harriet’s head, placed there by no less than Pope Tony the Innocent, wobbled..
I'm as much of a vidiot at setting DVD recorders as I was at setting video recorders when my parents first rented one in 1983. So I get to miss the BBC's Daily Politics every time its shown. And my computer is dial-up, so I can't easily watch things on line without lots of lovely pauses for "buffering". Shame. Andrew Neil is a great rarity - an informed man, dedicated to telling it like it is.
Alfie has the wonderful story of when Andrew Neil met Harriet Harman, and informed her of a few facts regarding the issue of teaching "Britishness" but only in England's schools, and the general mood of England regarding devolution issues. Read it here:

Andrew Neil is excellent value - a rare and precious thing on today's BBC.

My sheer joy at humiliating the English... by Gordon Brown
The Chancellor also saluted Scottish hooligans who tore up the Wembley turf and broke the crossbar after another victory over the English.
In an article entitled Why Scotland Means The World To Me, self-proclaimed "Tartan Army" member Mr Brown invokes ancient battlefield defeats by the English at Flodden and Culloden to explain why he enjoyed beating the Auld Enemy at football so much.
The remarks are in stark contrast to his comments two weeks ago about England's bid to host the competition in 2018, when he said twice that he hoped England would win.
Asked if he meant winning the right to host the tournament or 'win the whole thing', he replied: "Both."
When a row ensued in Scotland, Mr Brown said his first choice would be for Scotland to win the World Cup, but if they were knocked out he would back England.
But he did not cheer for England in his article for the book Football And The Commons People about MP soccer fans, published in 1994, the year Tony Blair become Labour leader and when Mr Brown was Shadow Chancellor.
See the full Daily Mail article here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=431932&in_page_id=1770&in_page_id=1770
Nowadays thoroughly British Gordy apparently loves England's national football team... Or does he? His treatment of England in general indicates that his competitive dislike of England runs deep and is spread far wider than any sports field.
It's narrow minded Scottish hatred of England that has caused many recent problems and has led to that country abusing English trust and colonising England. I suspect that this is at the root of many of our problems. Coupled with Politically Correct/lazy/corrupt English MPs refusing to do their jobs.
Brown's comments about football indicate that this Scotch apple has not fallen very far from the tree. The man's more twisted than a Rubik's Cube.

Wales: Free Prescriptions - Subsidised By England's Tax Payers... "We've Made The English Jealous!" Gloats Welsh First Minister Rhodri Morgan...
"We have never actually managed to make the English jealous before... but we have done it!"
Who said that and what about? Some proud Welsh or Scots sports fan, exclaiming over a run of good results? Er, no, actually - it was Rhodri Morgan, First Minister of the Welsh Assembly, having a crow about the fact that prescription charges are going to be free in Wales from 1st April, but not in England. See the BBC Online article here.
The way that people in England are now second class citizens on a whole range of health and democratic matters is of great concern. Even more so because Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are heavily subsidised by tax money from England via the Barnett Formula.
The system is unjust, twisted, corrupt - creating a tiny and all-powerful elite in the UK. But "jealous"?! I personally don't feel jealous. I like Wales. Good fortune that comes its way is usually something I'd celebrate. But this is plain unfair. I know people in England who struggle to meet prescription charges but do not qualify for any help at all.
I feel outraged.
I worry about the voters of the UK, electing the likes of Blair, Brown, Prescott and Morgan. I worry about our Scots-born Prime Minister, and our Scots-born Prime Minister in waiting, both of whom see no need for parity for England in the devolution stakes. All have got a screw loose in my humble opinion.
Things will change. The people of England will not be ignored, ripped off and gloated over for much longer.
Alfie says it all here.
More soon,
Drew
UPDATE...
Muggleton writes...
I believe that Rhodri Morgan is unbalanced and his comments are evidence of some bizarre kind of hatred of people in England. The man should not be in politics. His attitude is rife, although not often displayed as overtly, amongst MPs from Scotland and Wales. This is why the Union must be ended. These people have been bred on anti-English lies for generations. We cannot trust them and cannot work with them.

"Britishness" Indoctrination - But Only In English Schools - And The Silence Of MPs...
I was disturbed to read on the BBC site that the idea of children in schools in England being taught "core Britishness values" has now been recommended.
Note: only in English schools. Not in Scottish schools. Not in Welsh schools.
The England Project has a link to the BBC story and John says:
The British state will try to educate everybody’s children in how wonderful Britishness is. Only in England of course because in the area of education Westminster effectively has no say over the whole of Britain. That aspect of Britishness will not be taught in English schools. They will teach this in the hope of scratching back some of the ground that they have lost with their policy failures. During this education they will discuss all kinds of things but what they cannot do is instil a sense of Britishness in pupils in isolation of British institutions. They will talk about democracy. They will talk about freedom. They will talk about the institutions that we have created to frame and help protect these concepts…..and they will, at all costs, try to avoid discussing those institutions within the devolution environment. Sure they will mention the various parliaments but they will not, because they cannot afford to, discuss the real world results of those institutions. You cannot have little schoolboys and schoolgirls in England told that they are treated differently from children in Scotland and Wales.
Very disturbing.

Has anybody else heard from their MPs regarding EDM 670? Fiona and I e-mailed our MP, James Paice, several days ago and have heard nothing. Having contated him on other matters in the past, we must say this is a first - he is usually quick to reply.
Anybody else had better luck?

When I was a kid in the 1970s, TV and schools and just about everything told us that Royalty was great. But I didn't believe that and asked some very difficult questions about the Royal family "living off the fat of the land" in discussions at school. Why? Because my parents were anti-Royal and they were a much more powerful influence on me than school or anything else.
Enough parents nowadays are discontented with the British thing to ensure that "Britishness" classes are no sweet, easily swallowed bowl of baloney. Questions will be asked by kids, and statements refuted in favour of "My Mum/Dad says..."
My daughter has left school, but if she had been facing these indoctrination classes, for that is what they are, I would have raised merry hell with the head teacher.
Having been ignored by the UK Government in our quest for democratic rule, I don't think this force-feeding of "Britishness" to children in England will be easily accomplished. In fact, I don't think it will be accomplished at all. This Government is transparent and utterly dispicable.
An occupying force, no less.

Jack Straw: His Determination to Subjugate and Demonise England and the English...
Mr Straw also makes plain that he will only hold such a debate if he can find the time. The wishes of the electorate in England are not a priority. Also note that Mr Straw makes plain that the proposal is unacceptable. Of course. Open minded debate and fair legislation would probably put New Labour out in the cold in England and Mr Straw would have to get off the gravy train.
This New Labour fascist has made plain his hatred for the English on several occasions. Remember this from the BBC in 2000?
Home Secretary Jack Straw says the English had used their "propensity to violence to subjugate Ireland, Wales and Scotland" on the Radio 4 programme Brits. The broadcast is examining what it now means to be British.
Mr Straw will describe the English as "potentially very aggressive, very violent" and will "increasingly articulate their Englishness following devolution."
This is not a reasonable view. It sounds terribly dramatic, but Mr Straw's statement is clear evidence of hatred for the English and England. Read the report here.
Mr Straw has clearly not changed. The man is an anti-English bigot and a dictator. Then. Now. Forever?
UPDATE...
Sue Campbell
Strawman's comment about the English being potentially very aggressive, very violent, and his warning that they will "increasingly articulate their Englishness following devolution" points to two things.
1) Straw's hatred of the English, and his determination to subjugate and discredit them. Of course, being New Labour, he considers himself British and, being well-off, he doesn't suffer from the inequalities of devolution.
2) Straw's devious nature. He was fully aware even back then that the devolution settlement was not fair to England, knew that Englishness WOULD be increasingly articulated as a result, so sought to discredit Englishness and get recent immigrants and the chattering classes on side by inferring that anybody proclaiming themselves English and/or demanding parity for England was a thug.
The man is a complete and utter sleazeball.
UPDATE 2
Hazel
Don't you think you're being a bit unfair to Jack Straw? You missed out the part about him wanting a positive sense of Englishness?
I reply...
And also the part about us being more European. Another dictate. I'm not against the EU, but I am as it currently stands. Take it to the people!
No, I don't believe I'm hard on Mr Straw. The man stated that the English are "potentially very aggressive, very violent", apparently more so than anybody else in the UK, and then gives a biased view of UK history painting England as whip master. What he says is untrue and, in my opinion, reveals some sort of loathing for England.
His peremptory rejection of calls from the majority of people in England for an English Parliament last week reveals that he is still dedicated to dictating to England and still has no sympathy for our plight.
UPDATE 3...

I'm with you, Chris. Jack Straw is one of those grotty people who regards themselves as liberal fairness incarnate - and is actually exactly the opposite. The man is nothing more nor less than a conniving Little Hitler.

BBC Newsnight - State of the Union? Arse Licking Farce!
Matthew Parris was a disgrace - what a creep that man is. About as much use as a chocolate teapot. Kelvin Mackenzie was interesting. Christine Constable of the English Democrats was marvelous - given the shortness of time allotted to her. Scilla Cullen, of the Campaign for an English Parliament, had flown to Edinburgh to appear only to be told that she would not be allowed to comment as the English were "over-represented". What? The programme was then stuffed so full of Scots it was obscene!
We know that the BBC is an anti-English organisation. We know that it is chockablock with arrogant anti-English types like Kirsty Wark (remember her comment on discovering that she had non-Scottish ancestry? "At least they weren't English!"). But this is ridiculous. We pay the majority of the BBC funding. The continual spotlighting of the Scots' perspective is absurd. There are over 50 million people in England, 5 million in Scotland.
The show was a disgrace, an absolute Scotch arse licking farce. It serves to remind us that once democracy is restored to England, major surgery must be carried out at the BBC.

10 Downing Street E-Petition - Reply To English Parliament Petition...
There are no plans to establish a separate parliament for England. The four components of the United Kingdom have their own histories and distinct national identities, as well as different administrative structures, size and population.
As a result, the Government believes that different approaches and solutions are appropriate to address the differences that exist between the components that comprise the United Kingdom. The starting point for England is not the same as it was in Scotland and Wales.
The Government believes that the establishment of an English Parliament would not be of real benefit to the people of England. As the population of England accounts for 84 per cent of the UK population, this would mean that an English Parliament would only be slightly smaller than the current UK Parliament.
Such a move would not, therefore, contribute significantly towards bringing people in England closer to the decision making process, which is one of the cornerstones of devolution. The Government therefore has no plans at present to provide for an English Parliament.
Different starting points? The Union began as a union of nations. Why are Scotland and Wales allowed to be nations and England not? The UK Government should not be in a position to dictate. It is made up of the nations, and should adhere to the wishes of each nation.
The people of England in several recent polls have made their wishes clear. They want an English parliament.
And devolution brings decision making closer to the electorate? Regionalisation in England takes it further away. How the counties/regions of England are governed is not the primary concern of the UK Government. It should be decided by the people of England, via national representation. By a national parliament. Just like the one awarded to Scotland.
Sorry, New Labour, your reply to our e-petition is another transparent piece of dictatorial nonsense.
UPDATE...
Sue Campbell
It is up to us to decide how England is governed, and regions DO make local government more remote and unaccountable. Basically, we have a racist UK Government who have created a "Celtic" elite. They are entitled to the best of everything in Wales and (especially) Scotland, we get the dregs, are lorded it over, and HAVE to foot the bills for "Celtic" high living.

Lorna McAllister of Glasgow - Smug, Anti-English Bigot Displays Her Knowledge On The BBC Site...
Increasing demands on social services and less money to go round have led councils in England to restrict access to services such as home care, day services and respite care. The Commission for Social Care Inspection today warned this was happening by default, and without debate. Have you or a relative been told by your council you don't qualify for support to live at home? Do you have to rely on family or friends to help you? Are you a carer filling in the gaps?
Lorna McAllister, of Glasgow, wrote in –
How English! Look to your neighbours. We use our taxes more wisely. Scotland provides free personal care for its elderly. England simply has to do the same……
Crumbs, Lorna, I can see political knowledge isn't your strong point. Don't you know that there is no "English" government and that the UK Government is top-heavy with Scots? Don't you know that your big hearted Scots Chancellor sends sack-loads of English taxes up to Scotland to pay for better services/social benefit payments in his own country?
Look to your neighbour? In the case of England, Scotland often does that - it robs us blind and doesn't give a damn.
It's also interesting that the BBC printed the comment "How English!" from Lorna. Would the BBC have printed bigoted, ignorant snipes about any other group? Of course not!
I've been reading things on certain sites from Scots claiming that Scotland would not lose much financially if it split. That is genuinely good news. As long as that assumption is not based on the premise that Scotland walks off with England's share of the North Sea oil. We haven't forgotten the maritime boundary tweaking carried out by the UK Government.
UPDATE
Sue Campbell
I read the Scottish press quite a lot, and there are a lot of comments like that in certain publications. Lorna is pretty typical. The North Sea oil issue is a hot potato. I read a letter from a Scot this morning smugly claiming that Scotland would only be a billion pounds worse off without English subsidies. Suspect figures - even without giving Scotland England's oil revenue. Even worse, the letter claimed that Wales and Northern Ireland would be bankrupt. This is further evidence of Scots' appalling smugness, selfishness and self delusion. England's relationships with Northern Ireland and Wales should Scotland leave the Union are up to those three countries to decide.

New Poll - Electorates In England & Scotland Want To Split - Power Hungry Gordon Brown Refuses To Listen...
A majority of voters in both Scotland and England want the countries to split.
Failing that, both think England should have a Parliament of its own deciding on English affairs without any involvement of Scottish MPs.
The poll findings demonstrate deep and potentially fatal cracks in the 300-year union of the two countries, and threaten to present Gordon Brown with a constitutional crisis if he becomes Prime Minister.
In a further blow to Mr Brown, a majority in both countries want him to call an election within a year of coming to power, to secure his own mandate from the voters.
The ICM survey of attitudes on the Union and nationality was commissioned by the Daily Mail in advance of next week's 300th anniversary of the ratification of the treaty which bound Scotland and England together.
It shows that nearly half of those polled think the arrangement is unlikely to survive more than 25 years.
Two out of three English voters want an end to the subsidies paid to Scotland, and a majority want to end the anomaly that gives Scots MPs at Westminster a say over legislation which affects only England.
Just 31 per cent of people in England say they are British first, and only 15 per cent in Scotland.
Read the rest of this article here:

So, another poll - this one showing clearly that the people of Scotland and England want to split. Yet Gordon Brown, non-Representative (in England) PM in waiting, is still blethering on about the good of the Union.
Shut up, you silly little sod. We want a proper health service in England, access to life-prolonging medications in line with Scotland and Wales, elected national representation, an end to unelected dictates from unelected regional assemblies and the mechanisations of corrupt local government vermin trying to set up "city regions", we want our money spent on OUR public services.
Scotland, your own country, wants out too.
LISTEN TO THE ELECTORATE.

As The Government And Mainstream Opposition Parties Neglect And Discriminate Against England, The BNP Makes Hay...
Think about this...
People in Scotland and Wales can be Scottish, Welsh and British. There are efforts to foster a civic national indentity for those countries, regardless of ethnic origins. In England, there is no encouragement of an English civic identity. Anybody can be of English nationality, but as there is no political recognition of England as a unit within Britain, that counts for nought. BRITISH is force fed to us every day of the year.
Having no political recognition as a nation within Britain means that England gets poorer health care, poorer education provision, poorer residential care, and charges for health and residential care which are free in Scotland and Wales.
In England, life prolonging drugs available on the NHS in Scotland and Wales are not available to us.
Scots Westminster MPs rule on English issues, sometimes overturning the will of our representative MPs, imposing unpopular legislation like foundation hospitals and university top-up fees on us. The Scots Parliament has begun to extend its territory into England, ruling certain English rivers. The maritime boundary has been altered to give Scotland most of England's share of the North Sea Oil - we were not consulted.
And so, people in England become disgruntled. Then angry. But nobody listens.
"English votes on English matters," squawk the Tories, whilst their leader brags of Scots blood in his veins and slags off the English during a speech in Scotland.
"We've always backed devolution for the others!" say the Lib Dems, proudly. "But as for England... no, the current set-up isn't fair but we're not rocking the boat to restore democracy."
"I wanna be Prime Minister and I don't care about equality for England!" hints Gordon Brown. "England is BRITAIN, BRITAIN, BRITAIN! Democratic deficit? Think BRITISH!!"
And similar nonsensical cobblers.
And so the BNP seize their chance and start making inroads. No, Guardian reading elite folk, it's not the fault of a knuckle dragging electorate, it's the fault of the UK Government for delivering unfair and uneven devolution which ignores England and discriminates against its people at every turn. It's the fault of the mainstream opposition parties for putting their rosy careers and the bizarre continuation of pre-devolution UK style rule for England before democracy.
Yep, the BNP are making hay.
And the Government and mainstream opposition parties are entirely to blame.
We must all demand that the mainstream politicians act to restore democratic rule to England and begin to look after England as a nation within the UK, in line with Scotland.
The BNP MUST be kept at bay. And England must be justly treated.

Google: "Happy Holidays"? How Thoughtless and Insensitive!
A few points...
1) Like many care workers, I was hard at work over the "holiday", so "happy holidays" seems smug and insensitive to me. So, you had a holiday? Lucky Google!
2) Not everybody celebrates New Year when we do, so why is that acceptable? Google really do piss me off. Why can't they just stick to being a search engine, and stop imposing their priggish crap on us? There are too many organisations like Google which seek to dictate to the majority and tell us that our customs and traditions are simply not acceptable.
