England is the Only UK Nation to be denied a "miracle" bone cancer drug freely available in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland...

Via the CEP News Blog comes this...

England denied miracle bone cancer drug

By EMILY COOK,

Daily Mail

Bone cancer victims in England will not be given a life-prolonging drug - although it is available to patients in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The drug, Velcade, which can put the cancer into remission and dramatically improve life expectancy, is also available in every other developed country in the world.

But yesterday the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence refused to approve Velcade for use in England on the NHS, saying it is not 'cost-effective'.

We know that the health services elsewhere in the so-called UK are far better funded than in England.

Surely this should not be so? Jack Straw keeps saying that "England will be the big loser" if the UK splits up. Tosh, of course. He will tell any old lie to press his point home.

There are many reasons why Straw should be regarded as a corrupt spinner.

If the man was in front of me now, I would say to him that the NHS in the UK should be the same for all, not operate on an apartheid system - routinely discriminating against every man, woman and child in England.

People want good health care, most want to live as long as possible.

My dear old grandmother used to say: "Every drop of life is sweet".

It's heart warming that this Government agrees with her - at least if you happen to be a citizen of Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.

Is this one of the ways that the UK benefits England, Mr Straw?

How I wish he would answer.

Where is the BBC in all this? Have they reported on it? The last time I saw anything on the BBC News about variations in availability of NHS Drugs in the so-called "UK" (which always works against England), Scotland had been conveniently lopped off the map shown on screen and was not referred to!

Is Auntie doing the right thing and keeping the licence payers informed?

Let me know if you spot anything!

In the meantime, read more and join the discussion at the
CEP News Blog...

UPDATE...

Hi to Sue Campbell!

After the Herceptin scandal, this doesn't surprise me. Of course the government doesn't care if people die in England. This government is composed of Scottish and Welsh racists, heaven alone knows what the Northern Irish MPs think, and English MPs are content to sit back and take it for the sake of "Britain" and an easy life.

I've been having chats recently to one of the Blair Government's new slave workers. That's right, a young Polish lad, recently arrived here, happy to work as a bus driver for absolutely shit money. He hasn't been here that long, but already he is saying to me gravely: "Things are very expensive here!"

"Especially on your money!" I always reply. The company is famous for its shit wages and most of the workforce are recent immigrants.

What will happen to them when they want to settle down? Start a family? Unemployment is steadily rising, and somebody (probably another new arrival here) will be willing to take their place. But what better-paid job will be there be for them to provide for their new responsibilities?

And Labour was traditionally "for" the workers!

Anyway, I've had several conversations with the Polish bus driver - he's a bit of a ray of sunshine in the morning, and he's enthusiastic about "England" and "the English". Well, tomorrow I think I'm going to take him a scan of the "Daily Mail" article on the bone cancer drug.

The Government relies on the traditionally quiescent population of this country and the fact that the massed new arrivals don't yet know what is going on to mistreat us, steal our money, take away our democracy, and let us die for want of care and medication.

It's time to start informing recent immigrants what they've come to.

I think we all should make a point of it.

It's the English pleb that's had the shitty deal right through the Union. There were Scotland and Wales with their Secretaries of State, English MPs refraining from voting on certain of their issues and massive subsidies. Scottish industry was going down the toilet in the 1970s - they can't blame it all on Thatcher.

And as for the Poll Tax - many Scots were in favour of it. Didums, did they have it a year longer than us? My heart bleeds. At least we weren't letting their people die for want of medication freely available in England.

We must spread the word about the Scottish Raj and the evil British State, not just keep it to ourselves - let's tell the new arrivals!

Tonight I'm BURNING A UNION FLAG.

UPDATE 2

Welcome back to Greg...

NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) used to be a UK-wide organisation. These are the bods that have made the current outrageous recommendation about the Velcade treatment.

Judging by their blurb, I don't think they've absorbed the fact that devolution has given Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland their own powers.

Who is behind NICE's decision to let people in England die? Not anybody representing the interests of that country's people, that's for sure.

And the Scottish Raj-dominated UK Government gets to accept the recommendation!

We need our own health bodies, our own government for England.

We're being run by evil, racist bastards, happy to let us die.

Muddying The Waters: Jack Straw Lies For Britain (again)...

Thanks to John for this quote:

Mess about with this, and we’d see too the progressive disintegration of the Union. England has benefited most by this in amplifying England’s power worldwide. England would be the big loser.

Yep, it's Jack Straw again, writing in the Lancashire Evening Telegraph about devolution, and why people in England should certainly NOT be treated on a par with their Scottish and Welsh counterparts.

His argument falls apart as soon as you look at it. There's no need to even prod it.

How can a country which does not exist become the "big loser" by being granted recognition, a voice?

As for the Union "amplifying England's power worldwide" - when was that? At the time of the British Empire? How long ago was that? And surely dear little Scotland, disproportionately active at the time of Empire, felt at least just as much benefit as England from the venture? And what about Wales and Ireland?

Whatever the ins-and-outs, that's in the past, all gone - not the basis for modern day decision making on devolution issues. So what the heck is Straw playing at?

The man talks transparent nonsense - relying on the apathy of the electorate not to examine his endless stream of anti-English clap trap.

There are no depths the snivelling government toad will not sink to in his attempts to ensure that the people of England remain under the thumb of the British State.

The game's up, Straw man.

John has more and the link to the original article.

No sooner do I press "publish" than Sue zooms in...

UPDATE...

Sue Campbell...

Straw's ploy seems obvious to me. Not only does he regard the English as being violent, but he also regards us as being Imperialists - and fik (intended spelling). So he thinks we'll be swayed by his out-of-date Imperialist arguments.

We won't grasp the true facts - that we're being dictated to and shafted at every turn.

Of course, the British Government is the true Imperialist force in this country.

Jack Straw is a sick, twisted and utterly evil little man.

BBC Comedy Guide - "We Don't Love The English"...

Mark from Luton writes:

I'm black - my parents came here in the 60s and I was born here. I'm really interested in the English thing and devolution and enjoyed your article which mentioned Desmond's a few weeks ago. You were right - the characters in that show did not substitute "British" for English. I read this article about Desmond's on the BBC Guide To Comedy site yesterday. It's by a guy called Mark Lewisohn:

Set in a barber shop - Desmond's - situated in the south London district of Peckham, its wry humour was wrung not only from the characters and situations but also from the generation gap and the attitudinal differences between West Indian immigrants and their British-born descendants. Desmond's salon was the Peckham equivalent of the Cheers bar in Boston, with family, friends and neighbours popping in to play out the latest episodes in their life. Little in the way of hairdressing seems to have been done, but as a local meeting place it was second to none. (In this, Desmond's typified many black-run barber shops which, like, say, Italian barber-shops, tend to be more welcoming and friendly, and more of a social centre, than their white-English counterparts.)

Do you notice Lewisohn refers to "British born descendants" of West Indian immigrants and then goes on to say that black barber shops tend to be "more welcoming and friendly, and more of a social centre, than their white English counterparts"?

So, Lewisohn mentions the "white English", but it's negative. White English barber shops are less "welcoming and friendly" than black! And it's OK for him to say that.

Personally, I've never come across a barbers quite like Desmond's - part of the plot was that Desmond himself was not a good businessman. There are friendly black-run barbers and friendly "white English" run barbers. There was one near where I lived in the 80s where the old men were always in there, swapping betting tips, gassing to the owner and generally not having their hair cut.

But Lewisohn paints a stereotypical picture of white English establishments as stand-offish. Where does he get his hair cut? Mayfair?

It's the same with black and "white English" ladies' hairdressers: there's a "white English" one in my road where the regulars all sit around drinking tea and gassing. And some of the regulars are BLACK, Mr Lewisohn.

Is Lewisohn's remark supposed to appeal to we blacks? Because, to me, the guy comes across like a creep of the first order. Patronising jerk. And what colour is he? Why is he prepared to make negative generalisations about "white English" barbers and list the descendents of black immigrants as "British"? Desmond's was never afraid of the word "English".

Lewisohn's a slimeball of the lowest order.

Thanks for that, Mark.

I too have little time for Mr Lewisohn, and I'm fascinated by what you've come up with. I've linked to the BBC Comedy Guide piece you mention.

Yonks ago, Drew and Fiona came across an article on the BBC Comedy Guide by Mark Lewisohn, which referred to the Scots as Scots and the English as "Sassanachs"!

It's probably still there - although Drew & Fiona complained, they received no reply from the BBC.

Definitely a typical bigoted BBC employee.

A further word of warning: Don't take what Mr Lewisohn writes on the BBC Comedy Guide for gospel truth either - I've only skimmed but I've already spotted several factual errors, and writing intelligently about the alternative comedy scene of the early 1980s seems way beyond him.

An End To Scottish Dictates? Make A Difference...

"We need to have an arrangement whereby the regions, and Scotland and Wales and Northern Ireland, are better represented in the House of Lords".

That was the well-known Scottish dictator Lord Falconer (the man who said that England CANNOT have its own parliament) speaking in April this year as part of a plan to get even more Scottish MPs into the House of Lords. If Britain is a Union of four nations, which one is missing from his list and what words has he substituted?

Full marks if you answered "England" and "the regions".

The North East of England was granted a referendum on whether it should become a region a couple of years ago, and 78% voted "NO". So, New Labour denied everybody else in England a say, and increased the powers of the unelected regional assemblies. Now corruption and devious doings flourish as local councillors and some MPs try to create "city regions" across the nation. Sorry. I mean regions.

The aim is always the same. The abolition of England and fast bucks corruptly earned for many of those involved.

Our Prime Minister-in waiting, Gordon Brown, was the first to wipe England from the political vocabulary of the UK when he coined the phrase "nations and regions". In accordance with his Imperialist Scottish nature, he did not consult anybody in England before so doing.

So the largest and most cosmopolitan nation of the UK, every bit as historic as its neighbouring nations, is dissolved and dictated to by a political elite representing eight million voters - the people of Scotland and Wales.

YOU WILL HAVE FOUNDATION HOSPITALS AND TOP UP FEES.

YOU WILL SOMETIMES BE RULED BY MPS WHO ARE NOT ACCOUNTABLE TO YOU (e.g. MPs representing Scottish constituencies).

YOU WILL HAVE LOWER PUBLIC SPENDING AND SUBSIDISE THE UK NATIONS.

YOU WILL HAVE NEW NUCLEAR POWER STATIONS AND WE WILL CRUSH LOCAL AUTHORITIES' RIGHT TO BLOCK THEM.

WE WILL CHANGE THE MARITIME BOUNDARY SO THAT SCOTLAND CAN HAVE YOUR SHARE OF THE NORTH SEA OIL.

YOU WILL DO AS WE SAY. WE ARE THE NATIONS. YOU ARE THE REGIONS.

England abolished is a tragedy for all living in that former nation and the process is being carried out AT THE BEHEST OF LITTLE SCOTLANDERS AND LITTLE WALESIANS, with the aid of so-called English MPs, happy to ride the gravy train, with ABSOLUTELY NO LOYALTY TO THE PEOPLE THEY APPARENTLY SERVE.

Sorry to shout.

What can you do?

I could do about it.

UPDATE 1

Mike from Blackpool:

What about those Raj types who are elected by English voters?

If you're talking about Tony Blair, John Prescott, etc, then I confess myself hornswozzled.

Blair led the way, held the door open and set the ball rolling for the colonisation of England by Scotland - with a little assistance from Wales.

I have no respect for the intellect of those in Blair's constituency who continue to vote for him. They are foolish, stuck in the past. The post-yuppie policies of Blair's government do not benefit them. And what about those who vote in John Prescott? Or Malcolm Rifkind, representing an English constituency but with Scotland's interests always in mind?

But they are elected by English voters. So we must wear it.

A large number of voters, particularly in the North of England, are "Tardis types" - still living in the 1960s or '70s when Labour represented the Working Man and the Tories represented The Nobs.

It can be hard to keep up with the changes (New Labour now seems so New Thatcher), and a lot of people don't. Add to that the "Why vote? They're all the same" factor and the three hundred years of the "Think British" brainwashing factor, and we've got problems.

If you then add to all that the gerrymandering, spin and corruption of the Blair Government, it looks like we're trapped.

Soon, our PM won't even represent an English constituency.

But then perhaps even our "Tardis types" will start to awake?

UPDATE 2:

Sylv from Salford tells me off:

Why do you say there are "Tardis types" particularly in the North of England? The South still tends to vote Tory. Voting loyalties tend to go deep and can take a while to change.

I certainly meant no offence, Sylv. I think the majority of people who vote Tory do so because Tory policies still suit them in the modern day. I think traditional Labour voters have been sold up the river by New Labour. The party they support actually no longer exists. Many don't know, or at least don't know the extent of, New Labour's change of ethos and resultant treachery to their traditional voters. I used to be a Labour supporter and I feel the loss of that political party quite badly.

I know the world has changed, I know Old Labour needed to move on, but there is no excuse for New Labour.

Sainsburys - Another Anti-England Supermarket...

When it comes to anti-England product packaging, Tesco can't be beat. But Sainsburys doesn't lag far behind. Remember the stew pack Drew and Fiona complained to them about with ingredients from such exotic places as "Shrops, UK" and "Fife, Scotland"?

Is the Union Flag now becoming more prevalent on packaging for English goods at Sainsburys? Today, I saw an awful lot of Union Flags glaring at me from the fruit and vegetable displays. The flag of oppression, I thought, cowering slightly. I don't remember seeing so many in Sainsburys in the past...

I haven't seen a Scottish flag so far, but what is the packaging system at Sainsburys stores in Scotland, I wonder?

At my local Sainsburys today I decided to buy a nice big bottle of fancy yuppie water for a treat. But I didn't. The shop only stocked Scottish, French and Italian bottled water. You would have thought that there would have been at least one English line.

But then Sainsburys has no loyalty to England. The only time it acknowledges our country is when it want to makes a fast buck out of football.

I left the store, empty handed.

Comfortingly, on my local market, there was a lot of stuff labelled "English" - and most of it was cheaper than Sainsburys!

Sainsburys, like Tesco, can go and take a running jump off its anti-English merchandise.

Jack Straw - Rewriting History...

Here's a bit of Jack Straw's recent speech to the Hansard Society - with a few interjections from yours truly...

I'm in the solid, Mr Straw in the italics...

Let us be clear. The United Kingdom – Great Britain and Northern Ireland – is a union which works to the equal benefit of all four nations of the union.

How can that be? England has no nationally representative bodies and is being broken up into "regions", despite the North East, the only area allowed a referendum, massively voting "NO" to that "proposal". Do you know Gordon Brown, John Prescott and Ruth Kelly, Mr Straw?

The whole is greater than the sum of the parts. But the other three nations have not done England a favour by joining the union. Historically, England called the shots to achieve a union because the union was seen as a way, amongst others things, of amplifying England’s power worldwide.

Hmmm... But Scotland wanted to expand outwards too, didn't it? It had already failed once. And according to the BBC's Scotland's Empire, the Scots were disproportionately active in the Empire. Scotland also retained much of its own civic identity post-Union, its law and education system, etc. Did England really "call the shots"? Surely England submerged itself in the Union most of all the UK nations? Why try to rewrite history and present England in an unfavourable light, Mr Straw?

And the reverse would certainly be true. A broken-up United Kingdom would not be in the interests of Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, but especially not England.

Why? England is currently allowed no official existence, we do not have equal representation, we live with the Barnett Formula, the West Lothian Question. The Union is being run for a racist elite. Everything works against the interests of the people of England.

Our voting power in the European Union would diminish.

Whose? England has no voting power as a nation in the European Union. It does not exist.

We’d slip down in the world league GDP tables. Our case for staying in the G8 would diminish and there could easily be an assault on our permanent seat in the UN Security Council.

Oh please, stop being silly.

No wonder that Philip Stephens of the Financial Times described Mr Cameron’s proposals as a “reckless preference for political gimmickry”. Reckless they are. Unworkable and irresponsible too.

There we agree. The only way to restore democracy to England is the establishment of an English Parliament.

Mr Straw certainly doesn't like England or the people of this country. Remember when he spouted off about how we'd subdued the other UK nations and what a "propensity for violence" we have? It's all
here.

One or two other parts of the speech are illuminating. For instance, Mr Straw reveals himself as part of that self-loving 1960s youth elite - declaring it the decade which saw the start of the breakdown of the class system in this country. Weren't the origins of that actually in the social changes generated by two World Wars and felt even more greatly during the yuppie ("money, not breeding") revolution of the 1980s? Of course not!

Jack Straw believes that Scottish MPs should be able to foist laws onto England - and that Tony Blair is right to use them as lobby fodder.

Jack Straw believes that Scotland can produce laws discriminating against people from England who wish to study there.

Jack Straw believes that people in England should have lower standards of care and poorer public services - and have to pay for things that are free elsewhere.

Jack Straw is a self-serving traitor. Pure and simple. He values his career above the well-being of his constituents or the democratic rights of his fellow country people.

UPDATE...

Slyv from Salford...

Jack Straw may present as being mild mannered and self-effacing, but his mind is fast and devious and he has spent so much time with his head stuck up Tony Blair's arse he now has a permanently brown neck.

Jack Straw is a liar and twister of the first order. This is no surprise. He really is beneath contempt. Keep drawing the big, fat salary, Jack!

Tesco - Backing Scottish and Welsh Anti-English Bigotry?

Alfie over at Waking Hereward has a fascinating theory about the reason for Tesco refusing to display the England flag on English produce. Is the supermarket giant simply pandering to anti-English bigots in Scotland and Wales? Does Tesco believe that products clearly marked with an English flag in Tesco stores in Scotland and Wales would not sell?

So, to conclude with my theory, the only reason Tesco do not have an English flag on their English produce is to solve their perceived belief that to do so would inflame the in-built bigoted beliefs of their Scottish and Welsh customers.

here.

I wouldn't be at all surprised. After all, the UK Parliament goes so far as to sacrifice democratic rule in England to pander to the Scottish and Welsh. Like Tesco, it won't acknowledge England exists.

I have a suggestion...

If profits drop enough in England, Tesco may be forced to rethink its bigot-induced policy. So...

DON'T BUY AT TESCO!

The very idea of being faced with, and having to choose between, their "Scottish" or "British" goods makes me want to vomit...

COME ON, ENGLAND!

ANY STORE BUT TESCO!

UPDATE...

Greg from Cumbria...

I bet Tesco have carried out market research in Scotland and Wales and found that a lot of racist swine there won't buy products emblazoned with the English flag. I'd bet money on it!

What Tesco haven't bargained on are the affects of devolution and demands for fair play from England. Personally, I think that the flag concept is bloody pathetic anyway - the world is supposed to be binding closer together - and Tesco sticks pratty little flag motifs on everything! There's even an Italian flag on their pasta!

But if Tesco IS going to "go" with this idea, then England must not be discriminated against. The sight of that Scottish saltire has driven me from Tescos and I will not return until it is balanced by an equal display of St George's flags.

Want to lose a very large number of customers, Mr Tesco?

UPDATE 2 - 15/7/2006

ENGLISH DEMOCRATS ISSUE PRESS RELEASE...

Robin Tilbrook, Chairman of the English Democrats said that:- "Hundreds of our members have written to Tesco and received a similar reply. We argue that each response is a breach of the Race Relations Act which prohibits discrimination on the grounds of Nationality and under the Act each incident of discrimination gives rise to a claim of £8,000. I say that if enough English people claim the compensation they could be entitled to from Tesco, the English could easily turn Tesco’s over £2bn of profits to an over £2bn of loss for next year. We are calling for all volunteers to claim from Tesco and anyone interested in being helped make a claim should contact enquiries@englishdemocrats.or.uk, or write to:- PO Box 1066, Norwich, NR14 6ZJ. Tel: 01277 896000.

Get involved! Read the full story here.

UPDATE 3...

Oh come on, we musn't be churlish. Or "cynical". Or "un-British". Or "unpatriotic" - to quote recent comments by various NuLabour MPs. Let's be good little regions and tug our forelocks to our proud, historic masters in the proud, historic nations of Scotland and Wales.

Cor, how's that for sarcasm, Chris?!

Sarcasm? I didn't detect any, Darleen. Seems to me your e-mail is a straightforward account of what is expected of us by Tesco, the UK Parliament, the Scottish Parliament, the Welsh Assembly, old Uncle Tom McCobbley and all.

Drew and Fiona:

Tesco did dip their toe in the English pond around the time of the first Cross of St George frenzy we believe (4+ years ago). We then bought some spuds with a St George's flag on. It was a short-lived experiment. Since then, we haven't seen any. The last time we visited a Tesco (in Cambridgeshire), the displays of potatoes were dominated by bags marked with the Scottish flag (these were particularly prominent) and the Union Jack. Not an English-marked bag to be seen.

Needless to say, we'd simply visited the store for an update on the flag situation - not to make any purchases!

UPDATE 4...

Sue Campbell again...

There's also the fact that if Tescos treated England fairly and gave English shoppers the option of buying openly English produce, they might very well prefer it to the Scotch produce currently flooding Tescos stores in England. Tesco wouldn't want to cut Scottish food producers' profits, would it, even though it doesn't give a sh** about English?

This is all for the convenience of Little Scotlanders and Little Walesians - aka a bunch of anti-English racists.

TESCO HATES ENGLAND!

From the old CEP Cambs Blog...

The England Project highlights the continuing struggle to get Tesco to recognise England and afford English shoppers the same courtesy as that extended to shoppers in Scotland and Wales - produce clearly marked with the national flag. Tesco, whilst drawing the bulk of its profits from shoppers in England, prefer to ignore the country's existence, submerging it in the Union flag.

Below, is an old post from the CEP Cambs blog, run by Drew & Fiona, who locked horns with Tescos (and Sainsburys) several times.

The Tesco situation has resulted in some loss of custom for the store. At least six people I know no longer shop there. There must be others.

Spread the word - TESCO HATES ENGLAND! Sounds a bit tacky and OTT? Granted, but it appears to be true...

The struggle continues... Here's the old CEP Cambs post...

How can Tesco justify emblazoning their product packaging with a multitude of national flags, including the Scottish Saltire and the Welsh Dragon, but never the English Cross of St George?

We wrote to Tesco in Newmarket Road, Cambridge, last August and are still awaiting a reply. Mrs Scott wrote to Tesco in Yarrow Road, Cambridge, in December 2004 and received the reply featured above.

1) No English Produce - We source our ranges through the EU which enables us to get the best quality stock at the best prices.

"It seemed rather insulting to English farmers and manufacturers really," Mrs Scott told us. "It really is disloyal."

Mrs Wilson of Cambridge, commented: "Of course, they do supply English produce, they just won't label it as such - perhaps at the behest of the EU, but I'm sure that Tesco needn't obey dictates from there if it didn't want. The best quality produce you can buy is English and is available at your local markets, and at a much cheaper price than Tesco's in my experience!"

UPDATE...

Dave from Essex...

Something's absolutely rotten about Tesco's attitude. I reckon the store does hate England. There'll be a clique of bigoted Scots or PC English trendies at the root of this. We have a Tesco right on our doorstep, just perfect for us to use. But we wouldn't be seen dead in it whilst they see fit to discriminate against our country.

Sue Campbell...

Love the blunt heading, Chris! Right on - Tesco is a a git of a supermarket chain, anti-English to the max!

Wotcha, Sue. Yeah, the heading is a bit strident, isn't it? I just feel like I'm banging my head against a brick wall at times - and it makes me want to shout loud!

Blair Government Forces Nuclear Power Plants on to England - Scotland gets off Scot Free...

Horror in 1986 (click on image for larger view). Twenty years on, Blair's Government plans to impose a new generation of nuclear power stations on England. And take away local authorities' right to object.

From today's
Scotsman:

Nuclear power is the future, says Blair - but not in Scotland

JAMES KIRKUP POLITICAL EDITOR

Key quote " welcome the emphasis the review puts on renewables. Scotland has vast potential to exploit energy sources like marine and wind power," he said. " I have no doubt Scotland's most important contribution to the UK's energy future can and will be through renewables." - Jack McConnell

Story in full

TONY Blair yesterday paved the way for a new generation of nuclear power stations - but only in England.

Effectively formalising a cross-Border energy divide, the government's long-awaited Energy Review yesterday confirmed expectations that ministers have dropped previous objections to new nuclear plants and will grant permission for international energy giants to construct up
to ten new reactors south of the Border.

Less than three years after another policy review declared that nuclear power was not a viable option for Britain's future energy needs, yesterday's 215-page study found that nuclear power "is a potentially economic source of electricity" that produces only low levels of carbon dioxide, the gas scientists say leads to global warming.

A new energy pricing regime will be introduced to give nuclear operators a financial edge. Planning rules will also be streamlined to make it harder for campaigners to block new plants.
But the planning changes will apply only south of the Border and Scottish ministers will retain their veto on any new stations in Scotland. That prompted Jack McConnell, the First Minister, to claim last night that the review had cleared the way to a nuclear-free Scotland.

So the England-hating Blair Government has now decided that we're getting a new generation of nuclear power plants. But, according to the Scotsman, "only in England". And new laws will be passed to help block local authorities and campaigners who wish to protest.

But Scotland will not be having any new nuclear power stations. One law for us, another for Blair's homeland.

The inclusion of the picture of the Times front page from 1986, headlining Chernobyl, may seem a little overly dramatic to some. But I make no apologies. I resent the undemocratic way that this is going to be forced upon us, I resent the fact that meaningful protest is going to be made far more difficult and I resent the fact that Scotland, home to the arrogant Raj ruling England, is to get off Scot-free.

This is a very serious matter. Yes, think about Chernobyl. Nuclear power is not an issue where the public or local authorities should be muzzled.

The Scots will be reaping the benefits, but with none of the risks associated (e.g. leukemia pockets) with living close to nuclear power plants.

The Government's actions are once again racist and undemocratic. They depend on voter apathy. But whether you approve of nuclear power or not, I hope that you will join with me in writing to your MPs and others concerned to express your outrage at the way this is being handled. The democratic law for Scotland/dictatorship for England ethos, and the "streamlining" of planning rules to bulldoze over objections from local authorities are another nail in the coffin for democratic rule in England.

Blair and co are simply making the need for an English parliament more and more obvious.

UPDATE...

Stewart Thomas writes:

I've heard that Wales may be getting them as well...

Not sure about that, Stewart. I haven't checked out any Welsh sites.

I would imagine that the Welsh electorate, Rhodri Morgan and co would have opinions on the matter which they would voice through Wales' National Assembly - and that these opinions will be heard and acted on by the UK Government.

UPDATE 2

Sue Campbell pops in...

I thought it was a joke at first. So, the Scottish Raj ruling England will respect Scotland's democratic right to veto nuclear power stations in that country but take away the democratic right of local authorities in England to protest? And dear Mr Darling, an MP representing a Scottish constituency, totally unaccountable to people in England, is overseeing the details.

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

And Paul writes...

Blair would say they're safe. So why doesn't his own country, bonny Scotland, want them?

UPDATE 3...

GWG writes...

Don't you think that the use of the Chernobyl "Times" illustration is a little over-the-top? What are you trying to do, terrify people? If we end up with nuke plants in England I think the Raj will have done us a favour. Plenty of lovely electricity to sell when we are independent.

I make no apology for the Chernobyl illustration, GWG. That terrible event occurred twenty years ago. And now the Scottish Raj believes that it can force England to have new nuclear power plants, altering our laws to quash dissent. Memories are very short.

Perhaps we do need nuclear power. Perhaps not.

Three years ago it seemed we didn't.

Many will claim that nuclear power is one of the safest, cleanest forms of energy.

Maybe so.

But when things go wrong, the effects can be absolutely devastating. Let's not forget that.

I believe that this is the final weighty straw which breaks the camel's back. If, after consultation, the electorate in England agrees with the nuclear option, then fine. But we must be consulted. Scottish dictate should not be happening at all - but even by our Imperial Rulers' standards this is definitely one step too far.

English MPs - A Case In Point: Anne Campbell, former Cambridge MP...

Cambridgeshire Girly writes...

You ask about the role of English MPs. Well, the role of our former Cambridge MP Anne Campbell seemed to be to avoid the issue as far as devolution and discrimination against citizens of England was concerned.

A dear friend of mine, who has a long history of mental illness, spoke to Mrs Campbell about Top Up Fees - the unfairness of them being foisted on England by Scots MPs, and the fact that Scotland would discriminate against students from England by charging them fees.

Mrs Campbell simply walked off - flinging over her shoulder the comment: "Some people SHOULD pay to be at University." That was no answer.

Having been deposed as Cambridge MP, Mrs Campbell has now been made head of Mental Health Services in Cambridgeshire! Can you believe that?! They look after their own, the "in" crowd, don't they?

Mental health services in this county have been slashed to bits since the introduction of foundation hospitals, at the behest of Scots MPs. The local psychiatric hospital at Fulbourn is now virtually closed, and day services for people with histories of mental illness living in the community have also been slashed to bits.

Anne Campbell will continue to fling a lot of unsatisfactory comments back over her shoulder whilst drawing a big fat salary, it seems.

Nice work if you can get it...

UPDATE...

I have had an interesting mail from somebody we shall call "Fiona", who has asked that I on no account reveal her real name. You have my word, Fiona!

Fiona tells us...

What is happening in the NHS and other care providers in Cambridgeshire, such as housing societies, is scary. Services are cut to the bone in the health service. Meanwhile, registered care homes become de-registered and become accountable to a government funded organisation called Supporting People, which slashes staff hours, cutting management and coal face care staff to a minimum, and increasing workloads and stress levels to the max.

Fulbourn Hospital barely exists now and the government is also cutting funding to day care services.

The trouble is that care and nursing staff are not allowed to speak out. We are gagged. It is in our contracts that we must not speak out publicly.

It worries me to death, yet at the same time I am powerless.

Thank you, Fiona.

Life in England for those in need of care under caring, sharing New Labour and the Scottish Raj...

UPDATE 2

It's getting like Piccadilly Circus at rush hour on here! Can I stand the pace?!

Greg from Cumbria writes:

Why don't you open up the comments on here?

Me: I may do, Greg - but I'm currently in the midst of wedding plans. I'm a novice at this, so I'll stick to the e-mail approach until things are quieter.

Greg continues...

"Fiona" - great pseudonym! Why bother with one - a bit "Dick Barton", isn't it?

Me: I hope that Fiona will become a regular contributor on here and wanted a name readers would recognise.

Greg: The nursing institutions in England don't recognise England exists. We're just regions. I suppose that's why services are so inferior here and being downgraded further.

That and the fact that people don't know what's going on! Roll on our own parliament!

UPDATE 3

I have been chatting further to Fiona this evening, who tells me that the mantra employed by bosses in health and care services where she works is "adapt, adapt, adapt".

It is always adapting to lower standards. A friend of mine who works in a residential care home was horrified when the residents were persuaded that it would be in their interests to transfer from being a registered home to a "Supporting People"-backed establishment. More staffing hours were promised as an inducement. Instead they have been slashed. These are vulnerable people, being abused.

In social care and the health service, we are told to "adapt, adapt, adapt". If we question things, we are usually given a load of glib patter or told that if we don't like it, we know where the door is. "You must keep up - must adapt!"

Services are no longer being run for the benefit of patients or clients.

When I hear how different things are in Scotland and Wales, it really makes me think.

You know, people talk about the Thatcher era, the 1980s, as the epitome of selfish evil. No, hateful as they were, they were an absolute sweetie compared to now.

When New Labour came to power, they were saying that the Tories' Care in the Community plans were actually a cost saving excercise and inadequately resourced. I agreed. I hated the Tories with a passion. But I cannot believe what has been done now.

Is this Blair and co's revenge on the "auld enemy"?

A lot of people don't know what is going on. That's why I am speaking up. But if my identity was discovered, I'm sure I'd lose my job.

I find all this deeply disturbing. I was aware, for instance, that the Social Services care homes for the elderly in my county had been sold under the Blair government and there are now horror stories of declining standards, even in one case of residents at a certain establishment suffering from malnutrition.

But I have never really take the issue of care services in England under New Labour fully on board.

My thanks to "Fiona" - and to "Cambridgeshire girly".

There is much to think about.

UPDATE... 13/7/2006

Sue Campbell writes...

The "Suporting People" organisation came about because the Government decided that all health and residential care workers should have NVQ training. As many of these poorly paid staff members (many of whom were expected to meet at least part of the cost of their training) dropped out of the service, the Government found itself with a staffing crisis on its hands.

So, many residential homes, covering a variety of client groups, including mental health and the elderly, were de-registered. Supporting People took over from Social Services registration, and completely untrained care staff could then be employed. Supporting People also took the opportunity to cut staffing hours.

Don't ever become in need of care in England unless you are financially loaded. That's my advice.

The likes of Anne Campbell are nothing more than bloated Humpty Dumptys, sitting atop walls built on foundations of poor standards and oppression of staff likely to tell the truth.

The way she spoke to the mentally ill person described in the first e-mail in this thread does not surprise me at all. The top bods are all the same - exalted, out of touch and uncaring.

On Stage At Westminster: Tony Blair & Mohammad Sarwar - A Lovely Double Act...

From The Gruaniad. Mr Blair speaking in the Commons on EVOEL:

At this point, Mr Blair was spouting delusional nonsense about MPs in the Commons being "equal".

"I think that is an essential part of our constitution and I hope very much the opposition leader will re-think his position on this. It is wholly contrary, not just to the spirit of our constitution, but an utterly irresponsible thing to do or propose."

In what appeared to be a concerted attempt to unsettle Mr Cameron, another Labour question on the issue came up when Mohammad Sarwar - who represents a Glasgow constituency - asked Mr Blair: "May I ask you if it is your intention to make me second class MP representing a second class nation?"

Mr Blair assured him it was not, describing any such move as a "constitutional abortion".

"It would be completely wrong - the fact is our constitution relies on there being one class of MP in this House.

"That is absolutely right and under this government it will always remain so."

Mr Blair said it was "an essential part" of the British constitution that there was only one class of MP. Referring to the "West Lothian question" he said it would be "utterly irresponsible" to limit the voting rights of some MPs.

One class of MP at Westminster? There isn't. There are those who are accountable to their constituents and those who vote on issues affecting the electorate in England who are not. They are the elite. They assist the Government to dictate policy in England - like Top Up Fees and Foundation Hospitals. In both instances, Scottish votes made the crucial difference.

I love the way Scottish MP Mohammed Sarwar stood up, to ask if he was going to be a "second class MP representing a second class nation"? More pottiness.

No, Mr Sarwar, as Mr Blair has made clear, you will still be able to act as lobby fodder for him and help force legislation onto the electorate in England, as you clearly desire to continue doing.

Was Mr Sarwar's intervention rehearsed with dear Tony (after all, all the world's a stage?) or was this simply opportunism? If Sarwar and Blair cannot see the injustice in allowing the West Lothian Question to continue, then neither of them should be in politics.

Meanwhile elsewhere, choice Scottish chip wrapper The Herald reports that David Cameron is "incandescent" with rage at the idea that an MP representing a Scottish constituency should not become PM, whilst Michael Portillo has recommended that England severs all links with Scotland.

The latter works for me. As long as we get the Maritime Boundary between us and Scotland, so recently altered to Scotland's advantage by the Blair Government, renogotiated...

Sue Campbell pays a late night visit...

Recent polls show that the majority of the electorate want something doing about the situation - and the English Parliament option is increasingly favoured. I've just been looking at Iain Dale's blog and according to a new MORI poll support is spiralling. But Mr Blair and Mr Sarwar believe that everything is fine? And Mr Sarwar believes that he will be a "second class MP from a second class nation" if he and other non-representative Scots MPs are stopped from forcing legislation on to England?

I might be thick, but I don't understand that logic at all.

No, I don't either, Sue. And there's all these MPs supposedly representing English constituencies. What the hell are they doing whilst these bizarre exchanges take place?

Thanks for the Iain Dale info.

UPDATE...

Greg from Cumbria...

Mohammad Sarwar asks if Blair is going to turn Scotland into a "second class nation" by removing its Westminster MPs right to vote on issues affecting England.

Scotland already has it own parliament, Mr Sarwar - it has been treated better than any other country on this island - Wales only has an assembly and England has nothing. What do the Scots want exactly so that they don't feel "second class" - their own parliament and a dictatorship in England?

DB writes...

What planet does Blair live on? He must know that the electorate are increasingly unhappy with the undemocratic evil that is Westminster, but he still insists nothing will alter? Have we got news for you, Mr Blair!

You ask what the MPs representing constituencies in England are doing, Chris. Sweet FA is the answer - riding the gravy train and hoping that they don't ever have to do any real work.

A Culturally Preening and Racist "Celtic" Government?

My jottings about Cornwall from May this year - here - have been attracting some attention. Greg from Cumbria writes:

There is a huge difference between the Government's attitude towards English culture and its attitude towards the cultures of Scotland and Wales. Both the Scottish Parliament and Welsh Assembly are encouraged to promote each country's traditional culture, whilst traditional English culture is attacked and swept under the carpet.

I've often wondered about Cornwall and the "Celtic" thing, and thought of the massive differences in the Government's treatment of the so-called "Celtic fringe" and England. Not hard to see that a lot of the figures in power are Scottish or Welsh, or which countries Labour depends upon for its votes! And no wonder Cornwall wants to join this exclusive club!

If it is racist to encourage indigenous culture, and we know that racism is a problem in Scotland and Wales, then surely the Celtic myth should be buried? After all, we've even got the Church of England, headed by a Welshman, talking about getting rid of the Cross of St George (now a popular mainstream symbol of England) and replacing it with the flag of St Alban (very similar to the Scottish flag, meaning that just a small yellow criss-cross will signify England's place in the Union on the new Union flag). St Alban, of course, pre-dated England, so lends to the "British" thing.

Double standards, hypocrisy... a multi-ethnic England given second class treatment and a culturally preening "Celtic fringe" getting the cream.

The Government is racist.

Scottish Parliament Greed - Taking Over The Rivers Till and Tweed...

Shortly to be nodded through the House of Commons is legislation that will give the Scottish Parliament the right to impose Scottish fishing rules, regulations and fines on English people fishing in English stretches of the River Tweed or the entirely English River Till in Northumberland.

Not content with the West Lothian Question and the Barnett Formula, the Scottish Executive is beginning the march over the Border to extend its territory into England and broaden the ethos of undemocratic rule.

The Scotland Office says this is just a "tidying up" exercise.

No - this is undemocratic, the Scottish Executive is Scottish, it exists to represent the electorate in Scotland, is only accountable to the electorate in Scotland, and should have no say in England.

here.

UPDATE...

An e-mail from Mr G. Phillips, of South Cambridgeshire...

This is what happens what the UK Parliament "represents" England's interests. It doesn't do it. This is a dangerous precedent. Give the Scottish Parliament an inch, and it will take a lot more.

It just goes to show, despite recent news articles about devolution issues, that the crowd in Westminster don't give a fig for democracy in England.

At least the Berwick On Tweed MP has spoken out. Hopefully local people will be making a noise too. Whether this is a slippery slope or a one-off, the Scottish Parliament should have no jurisdiction in England.

Update...

Sylv of Salford is annoyed by this, the latest example of Scottish arrogance in England...

So the Scottish Parliament is extending its remit to England is it? On whose say-so? And why isn't it accountable to the English people, fishing on those English rivers? This is just another example of England being sold up the river (literally, in this case) by the Scottish Raj at Westminster. The Scots and PC dominated UK Government should not be allowed to surrender the democratic rights of English citizens to Scottish dictate. Little Hitlers!

RJ writes:

They do it because they can. The Scots have always been unhappy with the border, and have always wanted what they shouldn't have. Now, in cahoots with the evil Scottish and Welsh MPs controlling Westminster, we see apartheid and dictates, with the Scots and Welsh cracking the whips over the heads of snivelling gravy train riding English MPs and the powerless English electorate.

Look at Peter Hain - digging up cricket pitches to protest at apartheid in 1969, now backing the policy as it is applied to England; look at Tony Blair - the grinning psycho, who enlisted the advice of Mrs Thatcher when he came to power, and then shat all over England; look at Gordon Brown - "British"? Hah - as Scottish as a bowl of haggis - accept haggis was originally Greek, I believe. As with most things, Scottish culture, so jealously guarded, is stolen from elsewhere.

This Scottish and Welsh evil elite must be stopped. Write, phone, wave banners, protest. Give 'em hell!

UPDATE...

7/7/2006

Greg from Cumbria writes...

This is asymmetric devolution in action. England is the rump of the UK, with no one to speak up for it, and Scotland is, in Tony Blair's own words, "a proud, historic nation within the UK". So it gets to coerce and dictate.

Similar to the rivers scandal is the even bigger scandal of the UK Government altering the Maritime Boundary between England and Scotland so that Scotland gets more of the oil. Did England speak up? NO, because it wasn't asked. It was the decision of a Scots dominated UK Government to do something which tremendously benefited Scotland to the detriment of England.

Scotland's Wimbledon Hopes Dashed

Time to stop play,
Not just for today,
Poor old Andy Murray must now go away,
Time to stop play not just for today,
Andy is waving goodbye...

I'm sure there must be many disappointed people in Scotland after Andy Murray was knocked out of Wimbledon yesterday.

Update...

Sue Campbell, a pal of both CEP Cambridgeshire's old blog and this one, writes...

Naughty boy, Chris... mind you, I couldn't hold back a cheer!

I know, I am naughty. It's just that when I read Andy Murray's comments about England and then saw his dinky little Saltire wristbands, I thought: "Well, let him play for Scotland only then." And as I'm not exactly happy with that arrogant, spiteful and dictatorial little country at the moment, I booed him.

Even the sixth form girls who regularly use the same bus as me were talking about Murray being "anti-English" and not "wanting to be British" yesterday. And it takes a lot to drag their attention away from such pressing teenage questions as: "Is my bum too big?" "Should I wear legwarmers or black lycra leggings for the disco, cos '80s is back in fashion?" and, "Do you think Keith Spolton fancies me, cos he was looking at me in maths yesterday? He's not still goin' out with Shanice, is he?"

Today, I also noticed several cars still flying and several houses still adorned with the England flag. Maybe some people are just a bit slow in taking them down after the World Cup, but remember that the flags also appeared earlier this time round (some before St George's Day) and remained up until the World Cup. The longest instance of Cross of St George flag flying I have yet seen.

Awareness of the injustice of asymmetric devolution is spreading. And with the Scots and their parliament taking more and more liberties (as with the English rivers story), it's not before time.

Saturday Nights At The Labour Club...

Do the Scots hate the English?

This is something I have often thought about, being of English/Scottish parentage. My first answer would be "yes, a lot do". This is based on experience of my own family. When I was a kid, Saturday nights at the local Labour Club would often end in bloodshed and wailing police sirens when members of the Glasgow contingent of my family visited. Kids like me were witness to the likes of my Scottish uncle Jimmy, eyes blazing, lurching towards my father or some other innocent regular, fists up, "Come on, you English bastard!"

Now, as my father identified more with the concept of Britishness and saw my Scottish mother and her family as follow Britishers, this puzzled him. Most of the Labour Club's regulars were puzzled. But several of my Scots uncles and a couple of my Scots aunts didn't give a shit about that. On those Saturday nights, accompanied by a soundtrack of naff 70's pop on the juke box, England was the enemy. The assembled regulars, most of whom, like my father, considered themselves British first and foremost, were the enemy.

Saturday night's all right for fighting? Not 'arf, Elton!

I was puzzled by the stream of past English misdeeds spat out by certain of my Scots relatives. And I think I kind of accepted it. Scotland was in victim mode. In England, certain romantic, Victorian ideas about Scots and Scotland still prevailed (the bonny, bonny heather, the wee girl in the tam o' shanter, the strapping Scots Porridge Oats guy tossing his caber). The English certainly seemed to like the Scots; certainly seemed to feel a fraternal bond with them through Britishness that I know was not reciprocated by many Scots, if my own family were anything to go by.

To me, England existed but didn't exist. It was Britain first (I don't remember history lessons ever mentioning England when I was at school in the 1970's) and England second - a vague, shadowy second. Apart from the sports team, the language and the Tourist Board, what was "English"?

Fast forward to now, and Tony Blair has awarded his own nation its own parliament, and England remains locked in the tower of Unionism. Democracy seems dead here - and the hate-filled attitude of the Scots seems to shape much government policy for England.

For me, now, England isn't a vague concept. I have "read up", realise that history is a million shades of grey and the Scots were not lily-white. I realise that the Scots are behind the times anyway in behaving as though England is the England of yore. England is a modern, open-minded country which is being held back by the actions of a petty and vindictive elite. It's the interests of 50 million people being suppressed by the actions of MPs representing 5 million. Scary.

Many Scots still don't like the English, despite devolution. The 7 year old recently attacked for wearing an England shirt; the disabled man dragged from his car for the same offence; the English couple beaten up in Scotland a few months ago.

The World Cup has focussed England's attention on Scottish anti-English racism for perhaps the first time. In sport, England is no longer the vague, shadowy apparition, draped in the Union flag.

One or two Scots have been quick to try and make out that there is a problem with anti-Scottish racism in England. Scotophobia. Oh come on. Over one million Scots live in England. My own dear mother is one and does nothing to hide her Scottishness - yet she is one of the most loved people in our village. When another Scottish couple in our village put up the flags of England's opposing football teams in their windows during the World Cup, and a Saltire, not a window was broken, not a finger nail was chipped.

The English accept the Scots.

Casting around for examples of anti-Scottishness in England, one uncle of mine suggests that the name "Jock" is offensive - perhaps it is. But it is usually a good natured thing. I know several men happy to be "Jock", a Welshman who introduces himself as "Taffy" and an English Scouser who can't stand the nickname. So there you go.

But can "Jock" really be compared to the "Sassanach" and "hun" nicknames bestowed on the English by the Scots?

So, what am I saying? That all Scots hate the English? No, certainly not. This is evident in my own Scots family - there are several members who are reasonable, completely anti about being anti-English, and I admire them. They have swum against a tide of anti-English bigotry all their lives.

At the end of the day, what is happening to England is largely the product of many years of anti-English bigotry in Scotland and Wales. Victim stories passed on from generation-to-generation, fake ethnic snobbery and elitism - so-called "Celt" versus pig dog, mongrel English.

But the English, being all the races and creeds resident in that country, are beginning to wake up, and group together under their own flag. The Cross of St George. So far, it's mainly for sport, but that has also helped to catapult devolution issues further into the spotlight, along with the sterling works of the CEP and EDP.

England is no longer a vague, shadowy notion to me, draped in the Union flag. Years ago I never argued with my Scots uncles. Now I do. The other week, things became so heated with one of them that we still aren't talking. The English answering back can be a shock to the system. Uncle Jimmy even called me a Sassanach.

Never mind. At the end of the day, I feel it's all positive. England's scapegoating for the British Empire, it's abuse by the British State, are all coming to an end. The air is being cleared of an accumulation of centuries of anti-English pollution. We are speaking up.

Update...

Darleen asks:

Is your Scottish uncle really called Jimmy?

I reply:

No, he's called James really - but he's never ever called that!

Caryn Jones writes:

Is it worth all this bad feeling? History is history, and if answering back is going to upset the Scotch so much, is it worth it?

I reply...

As I wrote earlier, I think that the outcome will be positive and that the air will be cleared, which is what has been needed for centuries. But, much more importantly, if the people of England don't speak up, we'll continue to be trampled all over by the Scottish Raj In Westminster and, ever increasingly, the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh.

Fair representation for England, in line with Scotland, is an absolute must.

Always the Next Time - If England Still Exists...

Oh well. There's always next time. Personally, I think it would be better if our lads toughened up a bit - came on to the pitch with bubble perms and a display of skilled gobbing, like a match I recently saw from 1980. Well, perhaps not, but I can't help feeling that Beckham and co are a bit on the foppish side - all pouty photo shoots and fat advertising contracts for "Police" sunglasses. What next - Nivea handcream?

Yep, there's always next time. The important thing is to make sure that England still exists next time and has not become "the regions of the UK", bordering on the "proud, historic nations" of Scotland and Wales - New Labour's cherished dream.

Remember, dear readers, England is not just a football team - and England is in trouble. In danger of abolition no less. Of being sent off the pitch forever.

England needs you.
