Anti-English David Cameron Cosies Up To Gordon Brown

Conservative leader David Cameron offered to suspend political hostilities to help the Government deal with the crisis in the financial markets.

He was aiming to avoid a British repeat of the wrangling in Congress which blocked George Bush's 700 billion-dollar (£385bn) plan to rescue US banks.

In an emergency speech to the Tory conference in Birmingham, Mr Cameron offered his party's support for Government legislation to tackle the crisis and urged Prime Minister Gordon Brown to speed it onto the statute books when the Commons returns on Monday.

He announced that he was dropping Tory objections to a key element of the Government's Banking Reform Bill to ensure it passes smoothly through Parliament.

A sombre-faced Mr Cameron won applause from activists as he told the conference: "Let us not allow the political wrangling that took place in America to happen here in our own country. In Britain we are all in this together, so in Britain let us stick together and together we will find a way through."

Whatever the merits and pitfalls of Cameron's current choice of action, the fact is that as Opposition the Tories are useless anyway.

And the Party simply will not speak up for the people of England - as the most outrageous discrimination is practised against every man, woman and child in England, David Cameron insults those seeking justice "sour Little Englanders!" (in the linked article, Cameron chooses to tell lies about the Poll Tax in Scotland. The true facts are here) and bangs on about "Scottish blood" in his veins (what a racist concept!) and the fact that whilst those of us in England must be "British", his ancestors' apparently took part in the "Scottish Empire".

Cameron - you are an anti-English politician, one of many currently infesting Westminster, and you are one of the most dishonourable and unprincipled Opposition Leaders it's ever been our misfortune to encounter.

Die in England for want of medication available on the NHS in Scotland?

The West Lothian Question? The Barnett Formula?

"In Britain we are all in this together," you say. Well, you, Sir, are a liar - and like every other MP who refuses to speak up for the people of England, you have blood on your hands!

The UK Government: Polls Show A Majority Support Establishing An English Parliament, But WE SAY NO. And Asymmetric Devolution Is Fine...

A No 10 Poll we somehow missed signing - results in another denial of democratic right by the UK Government, acting expressely against the wishes of the vast majority of people in England:

The Government supports the Union of the United Kingdom. The Government recognises that the devolution settlement is an issue of continued public interest, but does not believe that there is a groundswell of support for an English Parliament at present. Consequently, the Government does not believe that it is necessary to establish an English Constitutional Convention.

No "groundswell"? Even a BBC Poll shows that the vast majority WANT an English Parliament!

Most people, including those in Scotland, think England should have its own parliament, a BBC poll suggests.

Newsnight found 61% in England, 51% in Scotland and 48% in Wales agreed with the idea.

So what, in the UK Government's opinion, constitutes a "groundswell of support" for an English Parliament?

Scenes like this? Will we see mass violence on the streets again before our masters will listen to our pleas for democratic rule?

Big hat-tip to Tommy English.

When Did The Anti-England/Anti-English Ethos Begin?

Winston Churchill was aware that any mention of England was simply not acceptable.

Since the 1970s there has been assiduously cultivated amongst the academic elite and media class, a habit of public belittlement of England and the English. For a country who has produced so many Nobel Prize winners in every field of human concern, and has culturally influenced the modern world more than any other, there is an astonishing lack of national identity.

writes Oliver Haiste in an otherwise excellent article about the modern day plight of England. But the anti-England/English ethos actually pre-dates the 1970s.

"There is a forgotten, nay almost forbidden word, which means more to me than any other. That word is ENGLAND" - WINSTON CHURCHILL, 1874-1965.

So, when did it all begin, and just what's with this tendency to make out that EVERYTHING, good or bad, began in the 1970s? Time and time again, we examine the true facts and find them different.

The Carlisle Artists' Hub - More Anti-English Bigotry - And Land Stealing

Abomination - the fake sign erected by the Carlisle Artists' Hub outside Carlisle. In an era where you can die in England for want of medication available on the NHS in subsidised Scotland, such "fun" is, in reality, nothing short of crass.

Not content with the Scottish Parliament's undemocratic rule over the River Tweed and its tributaries, nor Scots' attempts to grab Berwick-Upon-Tweed, the Carlisle Artists' Hub, a group of twittering anti-English PC English folks, Scots and "wannabe Scots", have decided to open up a "fun debate" about whether Carlisle should be in Scotland.

They've erected a fake road sign outside Carlisle, proclaiming "Welcome To Scotland".

From the CEP News Blog:

Any CEP members in the Carlisle area might like to pay a visit and correct the offending sign which, if placed on the roadside, falls foul of the Traffic Signs Regulations and can be corrected by a member of the public by any reasonable means. Such as replacing the word “Scotland” with “England” for example. Just for fun, of course.

The Carlisle Artists' Hub are a bunch of anti-English twits, who are totally out of touch with the realities of health apartheid, the Barnett Formula, the West Lothian Question, etc.

Their idea of "fun" is viewed as highly offensive here at WENAP Towers - and to any democracy loving soul in modern day England.

Get the bloody sign down and tell the Carlisle Artists' Hub where to stick it!

It has been suggested by one CEP member that someone should take a trip to Edinburgh and plant a “Welcome to England” sign as Edinburgh was once part of the Kingdom of Northumbria. Something tells me the natives wouldn’t find it quite so entertaining.

Remembering The Turmoil Of The 1980s - But What Outrages People Now?

We often think back to the sheer naked havoc that was the 1980s. Were you at Greenham Common? Were you a miner or a yuppie? Just where did you stand politically? Chances are, you would be making it obvious.

Nowadays, of course, people don't seem very motivated when it comes to politics. "Politicians have failed us!" they wail, and go out and buy a new ipod, some 1960s style wallpaper or a rustic style cruet set.

Or whatever.

Meanwhile, the politicians get bolder and bolder. England? We don't care about England! No, you can't have a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty! WE know what's best...

And so on.

And so on.

Oh, to be in the 1980s now that autumn's here...

Campaign For An English Parliament Press Release: Gordon Brown ready to sacrifice HBOS jobs in England to carry out his 1989 pledge to Scotland

Monday, 22 Sep 2008 08:49

'The real face of Gordon Brown has at last been exposed. As the financial crisis bites deeper and deeper and jobs are threatened in their thousands both in Scotland and England by the imminent Lloyds takeover of HBOS, his declared support for Britain has been shown to be very second place indeed. What really matters to Brown is not Britain but just one part of it. What matters to him is Scotland first and foremost. And if ever there has been a reason for England to have its own parliament which will defend its people, it is now.' That was the warning and the call issued to Campaign for an English Parliament members in Shropshire by Stuart Parr, member of the CEP National Council.

'The UK Prime Minister Mr Gordon Brown MP for Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath in Fifeshire is now carrying out the pledge he made on March 31sat 1989 when he signed the 'Scottish Claim of Right' drawn up by the Scottish Constitutional Convention together with 132 other Scottish MPs and MEPs including Michael Martin the Speaker of the House of Commons.'That Claim of Right read as follows: "We, gathered as the Scottish Constitutional Convention, do hereby acknowledge the sovereign right of the Scottish people to determine the form of Government best suited to their needs, and do hereby declare and pledge that in all our actions and deliberations their interests will be paramount".

'Gordon Brown has been the engine driving the Lloyds takover of HBOS,'' stated Mr Parr. 'No one can blame him for that. However, what the Times online has reported today is that page one of the formal takeover document promises that "the management focus is to keep jobs in Scotland; and there is no such reassurance about England". Not even about Halifax itself, the birthplace of the Halifax Building Society which employs thousands of English men and women. 'How little Brown cares for England! How else can anyone possibly explain that clause in the takeover document?' asked Mr Parr. 'And how unacceptable it is coming from the UK Prime Minister. The interests of just one of the nations that make up the UK should not be paramount to him, should not come first and foremost. Not even to a UK Prime Minister whose future will be decided by the bye-election soon to be held in the Glenrothes constituency next door to his own. Such narrow politiking should not enter into a takeover document of the immense UK-wide importance of the Lloyds-HBOS merger.

'Clearly England now needs its own Parliament, its own Government and its own First Minister to defend the legitimate interests of its people and restore balance to the Union. England simply cannot trust the UK Government as it stands. Britain is failing England'.

JK Rowling - Traitor To The Needy In England And Completely Out Of Touch With New Labour... And Harry Potter Stirs Memories Of The 1980s Mole...

Millionaire authoress JK Rowling, sitting up there comfortably in the land of plenty, Scotland, has just donated one million pounds to New Labour.

She believes that New Labour has done a great job for under privileged children (they haven't really), and said:

"I believe that poor and vulnerable families will fare much better under the Labour Party than they would under a Cameron-led Conservative Party."

Like those of us scrimping and saving for prescription and hospital car parking charges in England, Ms Rowling? Or dying for want of medication available on the NHS in Scotland but being blocked by NICE in England? Or those of us paying tuition fees at the behest of MPs representing Scots constituencies?

Not very bright, are you? But then as the lovely CBBC online service points out:

JK, who is friends with Gordon Brown and his wife Sarah, said she didn't agree with some of the Conservatives' ideas.

Well neither do we. But friends with Gordon and Sarah? How cosy for you, JK Rowling, you completely uncaring baggage.

Ms Rowling's act is simply beyond our comprehension. If she really cared for under privileged children, why didn't she donate the money to appropriate charities?

We can't judge Harry Potter on his merits. As soon as we saw the character, we were reminded strongly of Adrian Mole, the brilliantly funny 1980s book and TV teen - and we simply couldn't take the Potter hype seriously.

But after this we can make one promise: not a single copy of one of Ms Rowling's works or of the DVD spin-offs will ever be brought by us. And we'll take every opportunity to do some metaphoric egg chucking.

Rowling is a traitor to every needy person in England.

From the TV Times, 1985 - Adrian Mole - created by Sue Townsend as "Nigel Mole" in 1980, published in book form in 1982 and on our tellies in 1985.

Nick Clegg - Undemocratic And Deceitful

Doesn't it make you sick when politicians begin speeches like this:

My grandmother was a Russian exile.

She fled the Russian revolution as a child, escaping through Europe and finally settling here in Britain.

My mother spent part of her childhood in a Japanese prisoner of war camp in Indonesia.

My mother and my grandmother – their lives torn and reshaped by the great wars and upheavals of the twentieth century.

And they found a home in Britain because ours is a nation of tolerance, of freedom, and of compassion.

And what my mother and grandmother endured taught me the extraordinary, precious value of those beliefs.

They understood that beliefs matter. They make all the difference between war and peace. Beliefs shape our world, for better and for worse.

That was Liberal Democrats leader Nick Clegg. He then went on to make a speech which was designed to ignore glaring inequalities like asymmetric devolution, health apartheid, the West Lothian Question. It was, in fact, a blatant attempt to muddy the waters and delude the English into believing devolution hasn't happened, or at least has had no great impact.

Mr Clegg's party website then ground the down-trodden people of England further into the mud by demoting the country to "some sections of the UK" in a footnote.

Nick Clegg - you clearly have not learned anything from your forebears. We cannot believe that they were as undemocratic and deceitful as you are.

"Come Into My Arms My Beamish SiteMeter..."

After yesterday's horrifying Jabberwocky version, SiteMeter is back to its old, friendly, thoroughly usable format. Thanks to those at SiteMeter HQ who listened.

Now, can we work the same magic on "UK" MPs?

Tax Payers' Alliance And The Continental Shelf Act

The Tax Payers' Alliance has been answering criticisms of its recent report on the Barnett Formula - all good stuff. As the Alliance states, total North Sea oil revenue has for the vast majority of the time not covered Scots' expenditure and there is another issue there.

When the oil was discovered, it was thought that revenue would be shared throughout the UK.

The North Sea Oil issue needs resolving.

In the 1960s, the UK Government passed the Continental Shelf Act - which altered the maritime border between England and Scotland, placing formerly English waters (and oil) in a "Scottish Sector". The electorate in England was not consulted as apparently the UK Government felt that any oil revenue would be equally shared - we were, after all, the "UK".

This sharing of revenue has not happened and if Scotland is being treated as a separate country whenever it suits itself, then England needs a voice as a nation too - not UK MPs running the country into the ground.

The maritime border must be corrected (it was originally, under international law, a continuation of the land border) and England, Wales and Northern Ireland need their own parliaments, on a par with Scotland. These needn't cost more - because the UK Government will be so honed down, there will be no extra expenditure.

Then, at last, the nations of the UK will be on an equal footing. And a lot of the hugely expensive quangos and non-accountable Westminster wallies (think of the West Lothian Question) will be gone forever.

We'll probably make enormous savings.

And in the meantime the attitude prevalent amongst some Scots of "what's ours is ours, what's yours is also ours" needs confronting and debunking at every opportunity.

We musn't meekly accept the warped facts, bile and nonsense any more.

Sir Alan Beith - Another Traitor

Alan Beith is Lib Dem MP for Berwick-Upon-Tweed. Sadly, he doesn't have Berwick's or England's best interests at heart.

“I don’t see what an English Parliament would offer Berwick and the people of the north. We would still be in the minority with no more power to make decisions which affect the area. It’s hard to see how Berwick would benefit”.

Having proper national representation so that MPs from Scots and Welsh constituencies could not push through legislation in England against the will of England's MPs would not benefit Berwick?

Having MPs who would speak up for and look after England's national health service and be representative of the people would not benefit Berwick?

Having MPs representing England's electorate to decide the structure of England's internal political layout would not benefit Berwick?

Having issues like the Barnett Formula swept from under the carpet and properly resolved by MPs representative of the interests of the people of England would not benefit Berwick?

Alan Beith is another smug, selfish MP who refuses to listen to the people. Several major polls have now put support for an English Parliament at well over 60%. Alan Beith prefers to follow his party's line - which is to regionalise England out of existence - despite the massive NO vote in the North East.

The man is an absolute bloody disgrace. The fact that he is also sitting on the Justice Select Committee which has (apparently) been looking into the effects of devolution shows what a farcical and disreputable state "our" politics is in today.

Alan Beith has shown himself to be undemocratic. The people have said NO to regionalisation, YES to an English Parliament. He ignores them. So what on earth is he doing sitting on a "justice committee"?

Alan Beith wishes for the implementation of regionalisation - something which those allowed a say heartily rejected - and stands in the way of an English Parliament - something which recent polls show the vast majority endorse.

Die in England for want of medication available on the NHS in Scotland. Scrimp and save for medical prescriptions - they're free to millionaires in Wales. Have non-representative MPs (including the Prime Minister) foist legislation on to you which will not affect their own constituents.

Alan Beith simply wants to break up England. He follows his party's line. He rides the gravy train. Like so many UK rump MPs elected in the country formerly known as England, Alan Beith has no conscience.

Health apartheid? The West Lothian Question? The Barnett Formula? Not issues, say the likes of Alan Beith. And they're not issues because we're so comfortable on the gravy train.

Let the rabble rot and keep muddying the waters, eh, Sir Alan?

You evil toad.

Tesco Cafe - It's Scottish, It's British, It's UK - But It Sure Ain't English!

We did our supermarket watch today - on the menu was Tesco's and in the cafe we found just what we were looking for - another example of Tesco anti-English bias:

On the menu was:

Scottish Red Cheddar Macoroni Cheese

British Beef Steak, Ale and Mushroom Pie

UK Sourced Roasted Half Chicken

But nothing English, of course.

From the Scottish Government site:

Speaking at today's launch at Glamis Castle, Mr Lochhead said:

"Consumers are becoming increasingly interested in the provenance of what they buy. They want to know where their food comes from and they want to support local producers.

"Supermarkets recognise this increased demand for Scottish food. I know that one leading supermarket has increased sales of Scottish products in Scotland by 20 per cent and in the rest of the UK by 14 per cent in the last year.

But we can't help wondering how much these supermarkets, which absolutely refuse to recognise England, thus pandering to Scots and Welsh anti-English racists, are losing in revenue from their former English customers, who are now shopping elsewhere.

By the way, do try your local markets for cheap English produce. We've been very pleasantly surprised both by quality and prices.

Ben Bradshaw - UK Health Minister - LIAR And TWISTER

Health Minister Ben Bradshaw is one of that band of UK rump MPs (there are no English MPs, constitutionally England doesn't exist) who is happy that people in England can die for want of medication available on the NHS in Scotland, or scrimp and save for prescriptions free to all - including millionaires - in Wales. And he wants to twist the facts.

Mr Bradshaw is basically a traitor to the English people - a career politician who bends his knee to the Scottish Raj, and doesn't give a damn about the West Lothian Question or health apartheid.

From the BBC:

An English health minister who criticised health policies in Wales has returned to the attack.

Ben Bradshaw told a conference the English NHS provided a better service despite spending less per patient than the health service in Wales.

Mr Bradshaw attacked Welsh policies of free prescriptions and free hospital parking again and said ruling out using the private sector was "dogmatic".

The Welsh Assembly Government said it was "putting the patients first".

Earlier this year, Mr Bradshaw sparked a row between the assembly and UK governments by saying the money spent on free parking would be better spent on improving patient care.

His keynote speech to a CBI conference on health in London on Thursday threatens to re-open tensions between Cardiff and Westminster.

He told delegates the benefits of the English approach would become clearer in time.

He said he was "fed up" with being told that England suffered from health apartheid "because millionaires in Wales get their prescriptions free or Scotland plans to allow anyone who wants to park in busy hospital car parks for free."

Mr Bradshaw said: "What about the fact that in England you can get your operation much more quickly, you don't have to wait for more than four hours in A and E any more and it is easy to see a GP when you want?

"These things matter more to the public. We are already delivering them in England and we have been doing so while spending less per head on health than in Scotland and Wales."

Actually, Westminster MPs representing Scots constituencies decided that there would be Foundation Hospitals in England. There will be none for their constituents in Scotland.

And judging by the state of the hospital wards we now work on, this has been no good move for England.

People now lie in wet beds for unacceptable lengths of time because we are understaffed.

Errors occur over medications - due to staff tiredness.

People who cannot feed themselves are often left with their meal and it is later collected completely uneaten as we do not have time to feed them.

MRSA is rampant.

Ben Bradshaw is doing the people of England a major disservice in trying to make out that there is an English health service. There isn't. There are Scots and Welsh health services and a UK rump health service - that's right, the one which has no Barnett Formula to help provide good standards of care, on a par with Scotland and Wales.

It isn't a matter of the UK Rump NHS providing a more economical service that is the issue - it is the fact that Scotland and Wales have far more money lavished on them, and that the UK Rump NHS, which covers England, is of an unacceptably low standard.

It is that the Government is simply not prepared to spend as much on lives in England as it is on lives in Scotland and Wales.

But Ben Bradshaw is such a twister - he never mentions the Barnett Formula!

We Say: Ben Bradshaw - lying, twisting career politician - you are a complete and utter bastard!

Big hat tip to Kev.

Conservatives: We're Doing Well In The Polls, So Who Gives A Stuff About Equality For England?

The Tories, headed by David "Scots blood in my veins" Cameron, have decided that the Barnett Formula - which sees such delightful things as English lives being valued less than Scots ones, free prescriptions in Wales whilst fees rocket in England, etc, should not be allowed to interfere with their Unionist obsession.

As they are riding high in the polls anyway, why give a stuff about England? They are quite blatant about it, too:

The party now enjoys a large opinion poll lead. Polls had suggested that reform of the Barnett formula could have an electric effect on voters - similar to last year's inheritance tax cut - but that the risk was no longer necessary. Ridley Grove made the case on Monday that large opinion poll leads are discouraging radicalism in Tory policy.

Reform could jeopardise talks with the Ulster Unionists. The focus is often on Scotland but as the graphic above shows, the biggest beneficiary of the current settlement is N Ireland. David Cameron has high hopes for Owen Paterson's co-operation talks with the UUP and unpicking the Barnett formula could greatly undermine the appeal of UUP-Tory candidates in their first General Election campaign.

Reform could be a gift to the SNP. Alex Salmond believes that reform of Barnett would be a massive gift to his hopes for independence. A poll earlier this week found that - regardless of Barnett - a quarter of Scots would be more likely to vote for independence if there was a Tory government.

Reform could hurt the Conservatives' Welsh revival. Although the party may not win many more seats in NI or Scotland there is a real chance of big gains in Wales. Conservatives in Cardiff fear that reform of Barnett could kill those chances. As part of the Tory commitment to Wales the Shadow Welsh Secretary Cheryl Gillan has already defended the continuation of the Welsh Office.

Evil, Self-Serving, Racist Bastards.

The Tax Payers' Alliance Report On The Barnett Formula - Unfair Scots Screech "Not Fair, We're Lovely, We Do Subsidise You..." Yeah, Right...

From The Tax Payers' Alliance report:

KEY FINDINGS

Identifiable public spending per head in England is £7,535 pa (2007-08). But in Scotland it is 22 per cent (£1,644) higher, Wales 14 per cent (£1,042) higher, and Northern Ireland an extraordinary 30 per cent (£2,254) higher.

Just over the last two decades (since 1985-86), higher spending in the three devolved territories has cost UK taxpayers a cumulative £200 billion (£102 billion in Scotland; £43 billion in Wales; £57 billion in Northern Ireland).

North Sea Oil has not funded the Scottish spending gap, despite Scottish Nationalist claims to the contrary. In only five of the last 23 years have North Sea Oil receipts exceeded the cost of higher funding paid to Scotland. Even with current high oil prices, the income from the Scottish share of North Sea Oil only just covers the spending gap, and North Sea Oil output is projected to fall by 50 per cent by 2020.

Of course, on comments threads across the Blogosphere various Scots folk are screeching "That's not fair! We're subsidising YOU!! How dare YOU!"

One desperate soul even comes up with the following little gem:

Does the formula take into consideration the tax and national insurance contributions from the Welsh Scottish and Northern Irish natives who live and contribute to the English economy?

Er, so contributions paid by Scots, Welsh and Northern Irish people domiciled in England should be counted as Scots, Welsh and Northern Irish funding, should it? Perhaps the same should apply to English people domiciled in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland?

But what if, like Chris, you have one English parent and one Scots parent? Ower, Missus!!

Perhaps Scots, Welsh and Irish contributions paid by those who live in England should be sent back home?

Potty! If you opt to live in England, you opt to live in England.

Of course, controversy rages most over the North Sea Oil.

"IT'S OURS!!" screech some very vocal Scots.

Well, actually it isn't. Since the Act Of Union with England, Scotland has benefited hugely. The first act was England bailing Scotland out of bankrupcy. Then the Scots became overly-involved in the Empire, and various subsidies have seen Scotland taking an unfair wedge of the cake ever since.

"But this part of England subsidises that part of England!" some Scots scream, failing to see that as England is a nation in its own right (or should be) it's none of their damn business!

Then there was the Continental Shelf Act of the late 1960s, which allocated formerly English waters to a "Scottish Sector". At the time, it seemed that the "UK" was going to benefit AS the UK from the North Sea Oil revenue. But that has not been the case. The English were not consulted about gifting some of their natural resources to Scotland, Scots MPs were involved in the decision (surprise, surprise!), so obviously the Continental Shelf Act needs examining and the maritime border needs restoring to its pre-1960s state.

The fact that the oil is a bone of contention at all surprises us - it goes against the grain of what the UK was supposed to be about in the first place.

The Tax Payers' Alliance Report is very important indeed.

The people of England must stand firm against the illogical and frankly bloody unfair braying and bellowing coming from North of the Border.

Some people have been bred on anti-English bigotry. Reality is painful. And some Scots are absolute pros when it comes to projecting an air of long abused martyrdom.

Read all about it and follow the links at the CEP News Blog.

Well Done To Roger Federer! Many English People Were Cheering You All The Way!

Happy and stylish - the wonderful Roger Federer (right). Trappy Scottish chappie Andy Murray (left) looks vaguely disgruntled. HOORAY FOR ROGER!!

Big hat tip (I've nicked your pic, hope you don't mind!) to The Cross of St George blog.

The Anti-England BBC - At It Again...

After all the crap spouted by the BBC during the Olympics (the atheletes were Scottish, Welsh or British, apparently) Auntie has decided it would be fun to look at the subject of UK sub-nationalities because Andy Murray has been referred to as an "Englishman" in America.

GASP!!

Of course, that wouldn't have happened here. As the BBC proved during the Olympics, if it had been reporting the event he would have been referred to as 'Scots' or the 'super scot' or 'the flying Scotsman'.

Or 'Welsh' if he was Welsh and perhaps even 'The Welsh princess' if he was a woman...

Or 'British' if he was English.

It was infuruating. But credit where it's due - Auntie does recognise herself to be at fault at times.

And the BBC is one of the main culprits, says Mr Maxwell. This was perfectly illustrated when one interviewer asked sprinter Usain Bolt to give a message to "the whole of England watching" after his Olympic triumphs.

"It's a continuation of England and Britain being the same thing," says the MSP. "There's an excuse for people far away to not know their geography but the fact remains that the BBC not knowing it is beyond the pale."

So there you are. The BBC mentioned England ONCE during the Olympics. And Mr Maxwell picked up on it, although, amazingly, he didn't pick up on the bizarre fact that the BBC referred to the Scots and Welsh atheletes as Scots and Welsh and the English as British.

Fancy letting itself down by mentioning England even ONCE - shame on you, BBC!

But don't worry. The rest of the time the Olympics were all about Britain and Scotland and Wales, etc. Never a mention of the English or England.

But blind and deaf Little Scotlanders (they must be if they didn't notice what the BBC was up to during the Olympics) jump into the comments thread to have a whinge:

I've always had a warm reception in the USA when I say I'm from Scotland and most people seem to sort of understand that it's not England. The thing that drives almost all Scots mad is when English people use the word Britain when they mean England and England when they mean Britain - and there's no excuse for this from the bbc or politicians.
Lisa, Edinburgh, SCOTLAND, UK

Lisa's whinge was published by Auntie, of course, but this wasn't:

The English suffer worst of all. The BBC always refers to the English as "British" - the coverage of the Beijing Olympics was a disgrace. Why does the BBC have such appalling double standards?

The sooner we're independent the better.

The BBC is the anti-English BIGOTED BASTARDS CORPORATION.

Guilty Until Proven Innocent In Telford...

Telford Town Park was given to the people of the town with covenants protecting it as a park with free and open access for all in perpetuity.

says Wonko.

But Telford and Wrekin Council have a different view - they believe they are the "land owners" and if they want to harrass people distributing leaflets or people without children simply walking they can:

In the case of distributing leaflets in the Town Park, we ask that individuals or organisations wishing to do so request permission by completing an application form and supplying us with necessary supplementary documentation. This information will give us, as Land owners, the reassurance that the activities requested by outside groups will not compromise our duty of care to young people and the more vulnerable.

Note: "Land owners". The council isn't maintaining the locality as elected representative of the people it believes it owns the land!

And this seemingly fascist organisation preys on fear with a heap of pious twitterings to try and justify its stance and get people on side:

I make no apologies for putting the safety of our children and young people first. Unfortunately there are people at large in our society who are unable to be trusted in this context and we have had unfortunate incidents in the Town Park which we have had to deal with very sensitively. If this means that we have then to take precautions which some people feel are “over the top”, then so be it. We would prefer in these instances to be as safe as possible beforehand, rather than sorry afterwards.

So, if you are without children and want to walk in the park, you can't. And if you want to dress up as a penguin and distribute leaflets on climate change in the park you can't. At least not without a CRB check and various restrictions being imposed.

Sounds like Telford is sleep-walking into something quite terrifying.

Rather like the rest of England.

If you use the park, or simply value freedom, join the protest - Wonko has the details here.

American Films And TV - Anti-English Bigotry And Jean-Luc Picard...

We were chatting to an English Star Trek fan the other day, who commented of the Next Generation series, which began in 1987:

"I always called Jean-Luc Picard 'Jim Luck Picard'- he was so English, sitting there with his cup and saucer, coolly and calmly dealing with crises."

But the character, who seemed thoroughly English to us too, and was played by the English actor Patrick Stewart, was not English. The show's writers gave him a French name and a French background.

Why the fuck was that? Why is it that on American television and in American films the English are usually represented by shifty, untrustworthy characters and massive rewritings of history? Anybody for Mel bigot Gibson in Braveheart?

America has so many English influences - in its political system and culture - yet we are ignored or subjected to character assasination by its media. Meanwhile, plastic Irish and Scots Americans wave flags and foam at the mouth on St Patrick's Day and "Tartan" Day.

Seems like home, doesn't it?

God Bless America? How about fucking grow up, America? It's time we started speaking up for ourselves - and we don't mean as British - we mean as English!!

The BBC: All British Citizens Live In England

Big hat tip to the CEP News Blog for pointing out, via their excellent new Media Watch project, yet another example of the BBC's determination to pass England off as Britain, and English citizens as "British" - whilst inferring that the Scots and Welsh are not British:

An elderly couple from north London are being taken to court for refusing to pay the levy on their council tax bill which will fund the 2012 Olympics.

For two years Thomas and Rita Glenister of Barnet have withheld £33.35 of their annual bill, the amount they said would be their contribution to the Games.

The couple said all British citizens should contribute, not just Londoners.

They are due to appear before Hendon Magistrates' Court on 15 September in relation to non-payment of council tax.

Barnet Council confirmed the couple had been summonsed to appear in court over the matter but said it could not provide more specific details of individuals' accounts.

Since 2006 Mr and Mrs Glenister have paid all of their £2,320 annual council tax bill except what they have calculated to be the "Olympic surcharge".

Mrs Glenister, 74, said: "It isn't the money - we can pay - but I finally thought that it is time to stick my short little legs down and say 'up with this I will not put'.

"If everyone in England pays it then I will, but the fact that it is just Londoners paying it seems very unfair. I'm not going to run round the track, I'm not going to benefit from this 'legacy'.

Note that Mrs Glenister stated that if everybody in England paid the tax then she would, but the BBC mis-reported what she said in its opening paragraphs, twisting it to the couple saying that all British citizens should pay the tax.

All British citizens don't live in England, surely? In our book, the the BBC should have simply reported that Mrs Glenister said "everyone in England" or "all English citizens".

A simple mistake, easily put right?

But the BBC were contacted on the subject at lunchtime today and have simply left the article as it is. So, as with the BBC's coverage of the Olympics, it seems that only the people of England are British.

The BBC has been showing its dislike of England and the English rather a lot lately. It can only be a matter of time before this disreputable organisation, which distorts the truth and takes our money whether we view and/or listen or not, is kicked into touch.

The discontent is swelling from below. It is only a matter of time before it bursts to the surface.

We haven't forgotten that BBC Wales had no trouble changing British to English in a recent episode of Dr Who, to smear the English with a reputation for racism. When Auntie wants to be racist, spiteful and have a good old scapegoating session, the English and England exist. The rest of the time...

Campaign For An English Parliament Press Release: Hospital Parking Charges To Remain In England

The British Government is failing England - hospital parking charges are the latest example.

The Welsh Government has already abolished hospital parking charges. The Scottish Government announced yesterday Tuesday Sept 2nd that it will abolish them in Scotland. Both governments agree that these charges are not good for the health of patients because they put strain upon their families and friends and reduce visits. However, in response Mr Ben Bradshaw, British Minister for Health in England –he has no jurisdiction anywhere else in the UK- issued the statement that they will remain in England. Once again the British Government has failed England. Once again the British Government has shown that it considers England first and foremost purely as an employment park, purely as a place from which to extract government revenue.

‘I am appalled at the way the British government is treating our sick and elderly in England.,’ stated Mrs Della Petch CEP organiser in Yorkshire, in a message to all Yorkshire members,. ‘As well as free prescriptions, Wales and Scotland are abolishing hospital car parking charges and NI is to follow suit. But they will still stay in England.

‘The government says that Scotland and Wales now have their own national governments and can choose what to spend money on, but it doesn't take a genius to spend more money than the English are allowed. Funding is based on the Barnett Formula and on the very generous extra grants the British Government makes to the Scottish Parliament and the Welsh Assembly. Speaking in blunt language it comes down to this: whatever England gets, Scotland and Wales get more. Our Scottish Prime Minister Gordon Brown signed the Scottish Claim of Right in March 1989, in which he pledged ‘always to make Scotland's interests paramount in everything he did’. He is certainly carrying out that pledge.now.

‘Will someone please explain to us in England, why it is in Scotland's best interests for English cancer patients to die for lack of the most modern of cancer drugs made available in Scotland, and our elderly to go blind for lack of the latest eye medicine also available in Scotland? Where in the Labour manifesto does it say that Labour policies will be implemented to benefit Scotland and Wales more than England? Shame on England's MPs who do not rise up to protest at the unfair and unjust way the people of England are being treated. There’s not a spine between them. The British Government is failing England and our English MPs do nothing and say nothing’.
