The Anti-England BBC - At It Again...

After all the crap spouted by the BBC during the Olympics (the atheletes were Scottish, Welsh or British, apparently) Auntie has decided it would be fun to look at the subject of UK sub-nationalities because Andy Murray has been referred to as an "Englishman" in America.

GASP!!

Of course, that wouldn't have happened here. As the BBC proved during the Olympics, if it had been reporting the event he would have been referred to as 'Scots' or the 'super scot' or 'the flying Scotsman'.

Or 'Welsh' if he was Welsh and perhaps even 'The Welsh princess' if he was a woman...

Or 'British' if he was English.

It was infuruating. But credit where it's due - Auntie does recognise herself to be at fault at times.

And the BBC is one of the main culprits, says Mr Maxwell. This was perfectly illustrated when one interviewer asked sprinter Usain Bolt to give a message to "the whole of England watching" after his Olympic triumphs.

"It's a continuation of England and Britain being the same thing," says the MSP. "There's an excuse for people far away to not know their geography but the fact remains that the BBC not knowing it is beyond the pale."

So there you are. The BBC mentioned England ONCE during the Olympics. And Mr Maxwell picked up on it, although, amazingly, he didn't pick up on the bizarre fact that the BBC referred to the Scots and Welsh atheletes as Scots and Welsh and the English as British.

Fancy letting itself down by mentioning England even ONCE - shame on you, BBC!

But don't worry. The rest of the time the Olympics were all about Britain and Scotland and Wales, etc. Never a mention of the English or England.

But blind and deaf Little Scotlanders (they must be if they didn't notice what the BBC was up to during the Olympics) jump into the comments thread to have a whinge:

I've always had a warm reception in the USA when I say I'm from Scotland and most people seem to sort of understand that it's not England. The thing that drives almost all Scots mad is when English people use the word Britain when they mean England and England when they mean Britain - and there's no excuse for this from the bbc or politicians.

BBC: Chris Hoy Scottish, Scot, Scottish - OOOHHH!! But Not British, Brit, British...

Looking back over the BBC reports on the Beijing Oympics, the Scot thing is often too much.

Praise has been heaped on Scottish cyclist Chris Hoy after he won gold in the men's cycling team sprint at the Beijing Olympics.

Hoy, from Edinburgh, Scot anchored the three man squad to victory.

Scottish Deputy first minister Nicola Sturgeon said his success was an inspiration to everyone in Scotland.

Scottish Cycling chief executive Jackie Davidson said it was phenomenal.

No mention of Britain/British/Brit at all - and the "Scot anchored" thing is ridiculous.

But the BBC did tell us on another page:

He now lives in Salford, Greater Manchester, enabling him to practice with his British team-mates at the city's velodrome.

So Chris Hoy is Scottish, not British.

And as for the English? Of course, in the BBC and UK Government's universe they - and England itself - simply do not exist.

Doug Jamieson - Come On Down, Little Scotlander - Wouldn't Think Yourself A Celt As Well, Would You?

Here's dear old heavily subsidised spoilt brat nation Wales flying its own flag - not the British one - for its returning atheletes. What really annoys me is that if Wales wasn't being subsidised by England via the UK Government it might have other things to think about than all this flag waving and insulting the English - like survival as a real nation!

Meanwhile, the BBC lets a Little Scotlander and probably a Celt fantasist have a say on the proceedings:

Among the crowd were visitors from further afield.

Doug Jamieson, 59, and his wife Jen, 60, from Edinburgh were visiting their friend Ada Stein, 93, in Cardiff.

Mr Jamieson said: "The Olympics is a marvellous achievement for the small countries of Scotland and Wales.

"They have all done so very well and it's not right to pick out one in particular. They have all tried their very best."

He said: "it is a breath of fresh air in a dreich (miserable) summer.

Cosy up, dear - I suppose you feel some sense of fraternity to your fellow fantasy Celts - and of course you don't even mention England!

And "dreich" - oh please, my Mum's Mum used to say that - but I thought it went out with the ark!

Talk about "over-egging the pudding" - trying to over-Scot yourself a little for the Beeb, weren't you?

Mind you, it says a lot for the BBC Wales news writers that they do this sort of thing at all - seek out somebody from a fellow "Celtic nation" specially - when it could have been anybody from anywhere who just happened to be visiting Wales!

YUCK!!

It's crap like this from the BBC (and Wales) which convinces me that the Union needs abolishing. These proud little "nations" need to find their own way.

And good luck to 'em. I'm sure they'll do it. And at least then I won't feel like vomiting every time there's a "proud" display of Welsh nationalism because that country's claws are digging deep into my pockets and its citizens are being treated as an elite.

Whilst in England it's a case of "Anyone For Health Apartheid?"

Meanwhile, the BBC is obviously very selective about what it says and photographs in England - as Matthew and Noelle Stallard, parents of rower Tom Stallard, sit there with a Union Flag, on their knees and witter on about being "proud to be British" and how great the 2012 Olympics will be. The Stallards are just the sort of ill-informeds the BBC adores:

Mrs Stallard added: "Loads of people we know have changed their attitude already to 2012.

"They say they feel proud to be British. I think everybody is now beginning to feel excited by the 2012 idea."

Care to quantify that, Mrs Stallard? And as for sitting there with the Union Flag - words fail me. Well, actually they don't. But I don't want to become offensive.

Mr and Mrs Stallard don the butcher's apron. Ohh we're British, ooh everybody's so excited about the Olympics... Yeah, right!!

The Triumphant Return Of "Britishness": Olympics Outfits In (Mainly) Saltire Colours And I'm Doing It For Wales...

Iain Martin at The Telegraph tells us that the Olympics have proven that "Great Britain is far from finished". I don't see it. Only the English participants were habitually tagged "British" by the likes of the BBC and ITN, and David Davies, swimmer, had this to say:

"I'm really proud of Wales' achievements at this Olympics. It looks to become an incredibly memorable Games for a proud sporting nation and I want to be a part of that."

Only the English atheletes, politically apathetic and ignorant like so many, and fed a load of horse shit for donkey's years, towed the "British" line.

The Olympics are not going to serve to flag up a corrupt, self-serving institution like the UK and its Government, which creates elites on grounds of nationality and actively practices apartheid against the vast majority.

Here's the delectable Chris Hoy, dressed in a fetchingly 1980s high camp cycling outfit which seems to feature an awful lot of blue and white. Rather like the Scottish Saltire and not very like the Union Flag at all. There is a thin band of red there somewhere - is for that Northern Ireland? Where is the thick red band for England? Shouldn't that be in the space occupied by the words "Great Britain"? Who designed these "Team GB" outfits? English hating Scots or Welsh person or English hating English person?

The BBC And The Welsh At The Olympics - The Welsh Really Are Not British

"Just call that lot from England 'British'", says the BBC. "Bloody rabble. That's one country we simply WILL NOT recognise..."

"But here's a Welshman. He's Welsh! From Wales! Pure and strong and noble..." - the BBC goes overboard for David Davies and the Welsh, Welshness, Wales, etc, etc...

The BBC is still at it - flagging up to the Welsh (and Scots) and calling only the English "British" at the Olympics.

Swimmer David Davies has added to Wales' best Olympics medal tally for 88 years by winning silver in the 10km open-water swim.

Davies, 23, led for most of the race only be overhauled by Dutchman Maarten van der Weijden, who finished 1.5 seconds ahead in one hour 59.6 seconds. "It's going to take a while for it to sink in, but it's a proud moment for me," said the Welshman.

"I like swimming from the front, but the final section was a blur."

Davies took an early lead, but could not hold on against the Dutchman's late challenge.

The Welshman's was Britain's third open-water medal after Keri Anne-Payne and Cassie Patten won silver and bronze respectively in the women's race.

Davies' efforts ensured Wales had another Olympic hero to toast amid the Great Britain Beijing gold-rush sparked by cyclist Nicole Cooke.

And swimmer David Davies is so proud of Wales. "I'm really proud of Wales' achievements at this Olympics. It looks to become an incredibly memorable Games for a proud sporting nation and I want to be a part of that."

But Wales is not competing as a nation. Nor even as Wales, come to that.

And the BBC headline reads: Davies Extends Welsh Medal Haul. So he's really not British? And Wales is competing in the Olympics and has done so for years?

Wales won four golds in 1920 as Paulo Radmilovic and Christopher Jones were part of the victorious water polo team while Cecil Griffiths and John Ainsworth-Davies were in the 4x400m team that won gold.

Reality check - surely WALES hasn't won anything in the Olympics? Surely it's Team GB? Proud to be British and all that baloney? The same stuff we English are force fed?

But the BBC goes on (and on), celebrating "Wales' Olympic Roll Of Honour".

How come?

ITN also calls Davies a Welshman - apparently he behaved in a very... er... Welsh way. Well, it can't be British, can it? Davies is Welsh. Only the English are British.

The Welshman was talking to the press about his performance when an official tried to guide him towards his medal ceremony.

Davies turned to the official and said: "Will you shut up, please!"

But the official continued to interrupt Davies, who threw the contents of his water bottle at her.

Oh dear. Perhaps she was English, er, I mean British?

I don't bother much with blog stats, but sometimes I'm glad I did. It was great to see that the BBC spent more than three minutes looking at my post about the disgraceful anti-English bias shown by those reporting the Olympics. Not that it's the first time Auntie has been here or, I know, to other similar blogs and websites. Auntie knows there's a problem. But the fact is she persistently ignores it and carries on regardless.

So may I suggest the above logo would be an honest declaration of BBC attitudes and that they adopt it forewith?

The BBC: Not Only The British Took Part In The Olympics For The UK: There Were Scots And Welsh People Too - But No English!

The BBC's hateful anti-English bias has once more emerged into the spotlight thanks to its coverage of the Olympics. Yep, the Scots are Scots, the Welsh are Welsh, and the English are British. How come? That's illogical. No, not really. It's just typical BBC anti-English bigotry. OK, we pay the lion's share of the licence fee revenue, but as we have to pay it, why should they give a stuff? Little Scotlanders, Little Waleseans and self-loathing English folk have a field day every day of the year working for the BBC!

Mike Knowles of the Campaign For An English Parliament, states in a press release:

"In its CEEFAX August 19th bulletin, the BBC described Chris Hoy the triple gold medalist as 'the Scot'. On one occasion as 'the flying Scotsman'.However, it described Victoria Pendleton the triumphant women's sprint cyclist Olympic champion from Bedfordshire and Christine Ohuruogo the 400 metre gold medalist from London as 'Britons', not once as English. In the first week of the Games both BBC reporters and BBC CEEFAX described Nicole Cook who took the first gold medal for the British team as Welsh, even as 'the Welsh Princess' but Rebecca Adlington who achieved two gold medals in swimming only as 'British', never English.'

'What we are witnessing, and consistently witnessing,' stated Mr Knowles 'is BBC bias against England and the English people.The BBC will do all it can not to bring attention to the national identity of English people. The BBC is acting very politically. Its refusal to have a BBC England and substituting nine regional broadcasting units for England is political. It regards acknowledgement of England's distinct identity as a threat to the existence of the United Kingdom. It is not a threat. And the BBC has no right within its charter to act in such a pronounced political manner. The BBC has organised itself as a broadcaster into 'nations and regions'. The 'nations' are Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, the distinct national identity of which it recognises and promotes. It refuses to recognises England as a nation. It treats England as nine regions. It will not recognise our distinct English identity. All this is political.'

'The BBC should not discriminate against England. It should not act politically. It should report impartially and fairly. If in reporting on TeamGB it makes mention of the specific national identity of Welsh and Scottish athletes, it should make mention likewise of the English identity of English athletes.'

Exactly. Anything else is absurd. Absurdly anti-English, that is.
