Too Poor To Be British...

The late comedian, Bob Hope:

"My parents were English. We were too poor to be British."

And in these days of the Barnett Formula, the West Lothian Question and non-representative MPs, to be English, meaning to be a resident of England, is to be a second rate UK citizen. You can DIE in England for want of medication available in Scotland on the NHS.

On 1 April 2007, Prescription Charges will be abolished in Wales. It doesn't matter if you are a multi-millionaire, you won't pay a penny. In England, on the same day, Prescription Charges will be raised. Oh, and by the way, England is subsidising better conditions in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland via the Barnett Formula.

It's as though the UK Government believes that you are inferior...

Isn't it funny how the English are blamed for...

The partitioning of Ireland - carried out under Welsh PM Lloyd George, with a Cabinet stuffed full of Scots!

The British Empire - Ireland and Wales were fully involved, and the Scots was proportionately more highly involved than the English!

British involvement in Iraq - sorry, but Tony Blair is of Scottish/Irish parentage, born and educated in Scotland.

Think of all the anti-English rantings you hear and read - look around you - the so-called "Celtic" elite are always accusing, always holding you to account for things that you as a modern-day resident of England had nothing to do with, always blaming the English for things that are actually their own fault.

England is always scapegoated, always expected to carry the guilt of Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

But awareness is spreading. Things are changing. England will have equality within the UK - or without it.

Google celebrates St David and St Patrick - But Will It celebrate St George?

To add to this blog's study of what Google finds acceptable to celebrate and what Google chooses to ignore, we have St Patrick's Day.

So far, the list reads...
-
Christmas = Not Acceptable (call it "holidays")
-
New Year = Acceptable
-
St Valentine's Day = Acceptable
-
St David's Day (Wales' saint's day) = Acceptable
-
St Patrick's Day (Ireland's saint's day) = Acceptable
-
Now, I wonder what will happen on St George's Day (England's saint's day)?
-
What's your guess?

"Celtgelt" - You Know It Makes Sense!

Chris is now away until Tuesday and I shall be caretaking the blog until then. One or two more e-mails from Scotland, but unfortunately anti-English bigotry, foul language, and a terribly dense attitude prevail. I cannot reply without giving publicity to what seems like some form of race hatred in some cases, and without repeating what Chris has already written in others. It also appears that one of the writers is adopting different e-mail addresses and names. Very childish.

Take heart people of England - the end of the Scottish Raj is in sight. We, together with Wales and Northern Ireland, will gain equality within the UK - or the UK can go hang. What is most disturbing is the blatant Anglophobia in some of the most recent e-mails and the fact that some of the writers really do seem to consider themselves to be part of some sort of superior race (or it's the biggest wind-up since "Game For A Laugh"!). If they are to be taken seriously, it is chilling.
-
Sylv - the map is on its way to you - Chris posted it just before he left. If you haven't received it by Tuesday, please let him know.
-
Greg - a lift to London might be possible - can you contact Clifton?
And remember "CELTGELT" - you know it makes sense.

UPDATE...
Have just received another e-mail, apparently from one of the Scots contingent, requiring advice about his sexuality. Sorry, "Mr S Bear", this is not a counselling service. Honestly, what a bunch of wallies (grin)! Fun's over, lads/lasses - future e-mails will be marked spam and deleted unread.

It's All England's Fault...

Cargill Scott sc172@hw.ac.uk

Just a few points I'd like to raise as a Scotsman and one of Gordon Brown's constituents. I think you dodged the point Ewan Mcdonald made.... certainly Brown isn't accountable - as you put it - to any of the English constituents but then neither is he accountable to those people in (for example) Dunfermline, the constituency next to Brown's own Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath. In the same vain Blair, representing his English constituency is not accountable to any of the voters in the neighbouring constituencies either, at least in his capacity as MP for sedgefield, as prime minister he is accountable to everyone in the UK and this would not change if Brown was prime minister surely, unless you are accusing Brown of actively favouring the people of Kirkcaldy over everyone else in the UK!

Also, as scary Bear pointed out, there are more than enough English MPs to enforce laws that are unfavourable to Scotland, Wales and N.Ireland, you state that we had the secretary of state for Scotland to 'speak up for us' that's hardly a fair system either is it? considering that said secretary is one man with one vote! Also remember that the post was set up so that the original 1707 'British ' parliment, or rather English parliment as it more properly was (I seem to recall reading a portion of the speaker for the house of lords speech "We have now catched the Scots and we must make sure never to let them go!") to have a govenor presence in Scotland, not to represent us as a nation....

If you have a problem with the amount of Scots in the cabinet it's probably worth remembering that labour's traditional hunting ground has always been Scotland and the north east of England and therefore always has a disproportionate number of Scotsmen in its ranks, these scotsmen have however proven to be more able than the previous ultra English Tory government in many domestic issues regarding the economy.

As for the relatively minor note regarding Adam Smith on a bank note, I doubt it's the first time scotsmen have appeared on UK notes on both sides of the border, I must apologise for our nation contributing a disproportionate share of innovative and intelligent people to the UK. I see nothing wrong with the Bank of England wanting to celebrate a man who's primary acheivement was to the massive benefit of the Bank of England!

Finally, I'm all for the English having more power over their own local politics, although I still believe the overall UK government covers this well. These arguments only surfaced once Scotsmen began dominating the cabinet, therefore a mostly English cabinet would not have sparked your ire but would be no more fair on the Scots, Welsh or Irish... when it comes to UK wide policies the Scots have as much say as the English. All the Scots are guilty of is resisting English domination for 700 years, give us a break!

I reply...

Thanks, Cargill!

A quick reply as I am just leaving for Brighton for the weekend. Firstly, if Brown's constituency was in England, unpopular national policies of his would risk him losing his seat. That is how our democratic system works. He would be accountable. But the vast majority of what he does will have no effect on his constituents as they are governed by the Scottish Parliament. So, basically, Mr Brown can do what he wants in England and the electorate cannot vote against him. And he has no mandate. This is a change brought about by devolution. The old system was not perfect, but it was never anywhere near as unfair as this.

Are you suggesting that every constituency elects a Prime Minister?!

The Transport Minister for England can do what he (or rather New Labour) likes - his constituency is in Scotland and what he does will not effect his constituents because transport is devolved to the Scottish Parliament. And John Reid, up at the Home Office - quite a lot of what he does has no impact on his constituents at all.

Around 75% of Scottish legislation is now passed by its own parliament and Scots MPs still want to have a say on English issues. This has made crucial differences to votes on English legislation on several occasions. Many Scots find this absolutely repugnant, just as many English people do. Recent polls show that the majority of Scots are not in favour of this.

You say: "I see nothing wrong with the Bank of England wanting to celebrate a man who's primary acheivement was to the massive benefit of the Bank of England!"

Many people from many countries have done things which have had a significant knock-on effect for England (and Scotland. And Wales, etc...) and there were several great English economists. So why do we just celebrate a Scottish person? Why not have a person from an ethnic minority group resident in England on our twenty pound notes? Why a person from the Chancellor's own country, just next door, which has its own bank notes? We could just as easily have an Italian person, resident in Italy. That would make just as much sense. Adam Smith belongs on Scottish bank notes.

The Scottish Secretary of State carried much influence in the old UK Parliament. Indeed, George Younger, the Scottish Secretary in the late 1980s, persuaded the Cabinet to let Scotland have the Poll Tax a year earlier than England and Wales -
http://englandparliament.blogspot.com/2006/09/david-cameron-scottish-poll-tax-lies.html

There was also a "standing order" to prevent English MPs from voting on Scots-only legislation which was enforced on occasion.

The old UK Parliament was not an English Parliament. England alone was submerged in the Union and disappeared at great cost to its people. As with Scotland, the majority of ordinary English citizens were not originally in favour of the Union.

One of the problems I find with people such as yourself is a lack of logic. Everything is England's fault. In reality, many faults attributed by yourself to the English are actually plainly your own.

You say: "I must apologise for our nation contributing a disproportionate share of innovative and intelligent people to the UK" - I'm sorry, I find this an imperialistic and arrogant comment. Being half-Scots myself, I am not unfamiliar with this attitude (although I'm glad to say it's not, in my experience, the attitude of the majority) and I do not feel at ease with it.

The English do not tend to trumpet their triumphs, but there is plenty to celebrate.

At the moment the present crop of imperialist MPs from Scotland are doing that country a great disservice - making it appear small minded, imperialistic, greedy and basically racist. This is not the truth about Scotland. It's not what the Scots want. The majority of Scots, like the English, want to be part of something fair and forward-looking.

The fact that England submerged itself in the Union is being used and abused by Blair, Brown and co. The fact that people in England can die for want of medication available on the NHS in Scotland is an abomination. The Anglophobic "Little Scotlander" mentality is, sadly, rampant amongst the Blair elite. English MPs meanwhile sit by and file their nails.

Please do not try to bring Northern Ireland and Wales into your arguments. These two countries also suffer from unfair devolution, athough not to the same degree as England.

An equal system of representation for each UK country is a way forward - or we dissolve the Union. But something needs to change.

Thanks for writing - have a good weekend,

Chris

Banks: Who Founded What?

bazza1986@btinternet.com

Isn't it true that the Bank of England was founded by a Scotsman?

Not sure if "founded" is the right word, bazza, although that is the popular wisdom, I believe it was actually founded by Act of Parliament, but yes it could be said that the Bank Of England was founded by a Scot. And the Bank Of Scotland was founded by an Englishman called John Holland.

Neither is an excuse for the current "Celtgelt" £20.00 note featuring Adam Smith. Scotland has its own UK currency and can feature its own luminaries on its own bank notes. As I say, I'd much rather see people representing ethnic minority groups on English bank notes, a reflection of modern-day England.

More Points Raised...

scary_bear55@hotmail.com

Thanks, Scary Bear, I've inserted my replies to each of the points you raise in your text.

Chris,

Regarding your response to my last e-mail, noting that Tony Blair is Scottish, in my opinion Tony Blair portrays himself as English and he represents an English constituency. He was born in Scotland , his father is English and his mother is Irish. So really it’s anyones guess what nationality Tony sees himself as, but in my opinion he, or his PR people, portray him as English.

Tony Blair is Scottish. Being Scots is not a matter of race. He was born and educated in Scotland and speaks of his grandfather who used such phrases as "Ah'll gie ya a richt skelpin'!" Mr Blair's mother was apparently Irish, his father Scots. How his PR people portray him, or indeed Mr Blair portrays himself, is not part of the debate. In my opinion the man is more twisted than Rubik's Cube in its heyday. Tony Blair is Scottish.

Regarding decisions being taken by politicians who are not accountable to the English people, what did you make of the so called Son of Trident vote that took place this week? English MPs helped win a vote, which means there will continue to be nuclear weapons in Scotland .

I haven't read the story you quote, but it's right that these decisions should be UK-wide. If you look here
http://englandparliament.blogspot.com/2006/07/blair-government-forces-nuclear-power.html you will see that England is going to be taking a lot of the nuclear energy burden (courtesy of the Scottish Raj).

Scotland only have 59 MPs in Parliament. How many do England have? There are currently 646 MPs in Parliament. So essentially you already have an ‘English Parliament’ who can vote, and win, issues which may disadvantage Scotland , Wales or Northern Ireland.

Surely it is right that England has more MPs than Scotland? It is a much larger country. Proportionally, Scotland has had more than its quota and I believe still does.

About 75% of Scottish legislation is devolved to the Scottish Parliament. This means that Scottish MPs at Westminster are now voting on things that make not the slightest difference to their constituents. They are completely unaccountable. In the case of Top-Up Fees and Foundation Hospitals, Scots MPs overturned the vote of English MPs, although Scotland will be having neither of these.

This happened all the time during the last Conservative government’s days in office.

In those days, it is worth noting that Scotland had a Secretary of State to speak up for it. What did England have?

I remember the Spitting Image comedy show, doing sketches showing Scotland as a testing ground. The Conservative party are probably the main reason for the groundswell of public opinion which led to the Scottish Parliament.

I'm sorry, Scary Bear, but I find the Scottish tendency to trot out the 1980s a let-down. I was a firm socialist, so wouldn't give Thatcher house room, but Britain waas not having an easy time in the 1970s, far from it, and we tend to try and scapegoat the 1980s for everything. It's boring - they were an ever-increasingly long time ago. Throughout the 1980s, Scotland had the Barnett Formula, which ensured higher public spending.

For the record, Scots MP Malcolm Rifkind, no great fan of the English, states that the Poll Tax was not forced on Scotland (in fact, back in 1989, the Scottish Secretary did not see why Scotland should wait for England!). Mr Rifkind also states that Scotland was not used as an experiment here -
http://englandparliament.blogspot.com/2006/09/david-cameron-scottish-poll-tax-lies.html

There is proof printed in late 1988 and circulated in early 1989 that the Poll Tax was definitely to be implemented in England in 1990 here -
http://80sactual.blogspot.com/2005/05/say-no-to-poll-tax.html - so England was definitely NOT waiting to see if it worked in Scotland.

My local action group was VERY ACTIVE from January 1989 onwards!

Thanks for your fascinating letter. I'm away for the weekend, but if you require further replies, I will be back online next week.

Cheers,

Chris

Another E-mail...

Ewan Macdonald ewanmacdonald@gmail.com

Can you explain to me how, as a Scottish voter outside Gordon Brown's constituency, he is any more accountable to me than he is to you?

Thank you,

Ewan Macdonald

Imagine this scenario, Ewan.

In England, Mr Brown as Prime Minister, decides to legislate on the NHS. It is not a terribly popular piece of legislation he has in mind, but it goes ahead. There is nothing the electorate in England can do it about it because Mr Brown is not accountable to the electorate in England.

In Scotland, Mr Brown is accountable to his own constituents, but as the legislation will not effect his own constituents, it doesn't concern them.

So England has a PM who is unaccountable for the vast majority of his actions. A lot of the legislation passed by Mr Brown's Government will have absolutely no effect on the people that have elected him to represent them.

In the old days, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland had Secretaries of State to represent them, but England was considered too big to need anything. In these days of devolution, England, Wales and Northern Ireland all need parliaments, or we should return to the days of just one parliament for the whole of the UK.

I personally favour parliaments for all, it is the only fair way - for instance, local government in England should be decided by the people of England via a referendum in their own parliament, not by Gordon Brown to suit his own political ambitions.

If the UK is to remain, the UK Government can be reduced so that it takes care of issues such as defence. And each nation has its own domestic parliament. Equality.

Hope this answers your query and thanks for the e-mail,

Cheers,

Chris

Two E-mails...

E-mail from: scary bear scary_bear55@hotmail.com

Chris,

Did you have a nasty Scottish teacher in your formative years?

Why do you hate the Scots? I'm Scottish and harbour no ill feeling towards the English whatsoever. Just because some of the current bunch of hopeless politicians are Scottish is no reason to hate the Scottish people. Does the Prime Minister always have to be English?

Best regards,

David

I reply...

Dear David,

The Prime Minister, Tony Blair, is Scottish and that is no problem. In post-devolved times for Scotland, Tony Blair, represents an English constituency so is accountable to people in England. It doesn't matter where people originate from - anybody can be PM.

However, Gordon Brown will not be accountable to people in England as he represents a Scottish constituency. Because of uneven devolution, much of the legislation passed by his government will not effect his own constituents, as so much has been devolved to the Scottish Parliament. That is one of the reasons why we need an English Parliament to balance things out. One of the mainstays of democracy is that our politicians should be accountable to those they govern.

The fact is that the UK is not equal under the current system in a variety of ways. And the fifty-odd million people in England are always at the sticky end. People can now DIE in England for want of medication available on the NHS in Scotland. The UK should be equal.

I also believe that members of ethnic minority groups should be featured on English bank notes, not people from Scotland, which has its own UK bank notes.

And HATE the Scots? My mother is Scots, so I can assure you I don't.

Thank you for writing.

Best wishes,

Chris

Hi

If you are so determined to get England a parliament why not start your own party? No but then where would the fun be in that? Its so much easier to blame everyone else for England's problems. No free health care for the elderly in England? Campaign for it that what we did. However keep blogging and blaming us though.

Yours from a Scottish Utopia!

Celtgelt And Scotsmen On English Bank Notes...

Illustration Waking Hereward, 2007

When you get one of the new Bank of England £20 notes with a picture of Scotsman Adam Smith on, write "Celtgelt" on it. What is "Celtgelt"? More about that in a moment, but first let's look at the idea of Scotsmen on English bank notes.

Is it Scotophobic to resent such a thing? Not at all. Scotland has its own bank notes, celebrates its own luminaries, it is inappropriate to also feature them on English notes. England is another country. Far more appropriate to feature modern-day English people representing ethnic minorities who have come here from abroad than people from a fellow Union country, only next door, which already has its own UK currency.

It also demonstrates the unhealthy hold that Scotland has over England. Scotland is a country of 5 million citizens. And yet its MPs dominate our parliament. Its non-representative MPs pervert democratic rule in England. Its citizens are heavily subsidised by us. You can actually DIE in England for want of medication available free on the NHS in Scotland.

The Scottish thing has become dangerous. Contrary to popular belief, England does not somehow deserve this treatment. Many of the past misdeeds attributed to us are actually more properly the fault of the Scots and Welsh. The partitioning of Ireland? Carried out by a Welsh PM with a cabinet stuffed full of Scots. The Empire? Well, whether you consider it good or bad, the Scots were disproportionately involved.

Whatever, the past is the past and England has contributed a tremendous amount of good things to the world. We do not need to carry guilt for the whole of the UK. We deserve equality.

Find out about CELTGELT at Waking Hereward here -

UPDATE

Sylv from Salford

The Scots are everywhere. You wouldn't think it was a tiny nation of five million people, would you?

Their desire to colonise is as strong as in the days of Empire

Now, to puzzle the English and muddy the waters, they're planning to turn Liverpool into a "mini-region". No referendum. It's just to be forced through to ease the way for our non-representative PM in waiting Gordon Brown. Divide and rule. And the mini-region will simply be a piece of quango-ristic nonsense. It will be a talking shop. There will be bankhanders going on. Nice bits of corruption here and there. The electorate will be shat upon, as usual. Mark my words - it will in no way compare to the Scottish Parliament or Welsh Assembly.

It will not answer the West Lothian Question, Barnett Formula or health apartheid.

The Scots and Welsh will continue to rule and abuse England.

And now Scots are even cropping up on English bank notes, despite having their own. What's on Scottish bank notes? I'll bet it's not English people.

England MUST be set free!

John Denham - Labour MP For Southampton Itchen Declares The English Are Racists, Compared To The Scots And Welsh...

On the day of this report in the Times - English denied cancer drug given to Scots, it has come to my attention (via Hansard ) that John Denham (Lab MP for Southampton Itchen) said:

"Incidentally, it must be said that one of the things that the Scottish and Welsh have done much better than the English is to develop an ethnically inclusive national identity. It is much more likely that a member of the black and ethnic minority communities in Scotland will describe himself as Scottish than that someone in England with a similar background will describe himself as English. People in England tend to jump straight to the British identity".

Mr Denham, when immigrants arrive in England and find that our national government and institutions are labelled "British" then surely that, rather than a lack of rapport with the existing population, encourages them to label themselves "British"?

Also, Scots MPs like Gordon Brown are at great pains to encourage the "British" thing in England. But in Scotland and Wales there are many bodies labelled "Scottish" and "Welsh" and those countries have "Scottish" and "Welsh" governing bodies.

If you are seriously trying to tell us that there is no problem with racism in Scotland and Wales, we can point you to various attacks on members of ethnic minority groups and English people in those countries in recent months.

The vast majority of English people, being the many and various peoples of England, have no say in governing their country - it is all taken care of by anti-English Scots and Welsh MPs and lazy, undemocratic English MPs who betray their fellow country people.

Have you not heard of the Barnett Formula? NHS medication apartheid? The West Lothian Question?

Please discover the facts before insulting the people who elect you.

UPDATE:

Sue Campbell...

Another priggish and bigoted New Labour MP working against his own country people. Bet the gravy train's nice and cosy, eh, Mr Denham? What a shame we don't still have OLD Labour - a party with principles!

UPDATE 2

Greg, Cumbria

The Truth of the matter...

You move to Scotland and British Gas is called "Scottish Gas" and there's a Scottish National Museum and a Scottish Parliament and, in fact, just about everything is called Scottish and the people of the country are referred to as "Scottish"... so, you regard yourself as "Scottish".

You move to England and there's British Gas and the British Museum and the British Parliament and, in fact, just about everything is labelled "British" and the people of the country are referred to as "British" ... so, you regard yourself as "British".

And ambitious MPs representing Scottish constituencies like Gordon Brown encourage it for all their worth and New Labour and its think tanks make out that to regard yourself as English is racist and that everything in the garden is lovely.

And that things like health apartheid and the Barnett Formula and the West Lothian Question don't exist.

And that's it, the 2007 reality - England and everybody in it used and abused by the UK Government.

1 April 2007: Free Prescriptions For All In Wales - Prescription Charges Raised In England

Wales is heavily subsidised financially by England via the Barnett Formula. On 1st April 2007, prescription charges in Wales will be dropped. It doesn't matter if you're a millionaire. You won't pay a penny. In England, on the same day, prescription charges will be raised. This despite concerns from various health professionals and patient groups:

From the Daily Express:

Patient groups attacked the 20p increase, which will take the cost to £6.85 for each prescription.Ministers said the increase, which begins on April 1, would raise £425 million for the cash-strapped NHS.

But the move was criticised by Professor Jessica Corner, director of improving cancer services at Macmillan Cancer Support.

She said: “We are extremely disappointed to hear that the Government has decided to raise prescription charges in England, particularly as they are to be abolished entirely in Wales on the same day.

“Our research shows that one in seven cancer patients aged 55 and under who currently have to pay for prescriptions are unable to afford their cancer treatment.

“This news will be yet another blow to patients facing a double whammy of increased costs and a significant drop in income as a result of their cancer.”

This is health apartheid in action. And remember Welsh First Minister Rhodri Morgan punching the air and saying that at last the Welsh had made the English jealous? Because lives in Wales are valued more than those in England?

Morgan is a very sick man. I am not jealous - I am beside myself with rage at the RACIST INJUSTICE OF IT ALL.

More here - http://www.thecep.org.uk/news/Comments.asp?Entry=1504 - the CEP news blog article also contains a link to the original Daily Express article.

UPDATE...

Sue Campbell...

It's strange isn't it? People in England have unelected regional assemblies and no national representation, and people in Scotland and Wales have elected NATIONAL political bodies to represent them. What worries me most is that we now have a situation where people in Wales and Scotland are becoming an elite, far better treated than people in England on a whole range of issues. England needs representation as a UK nation, just like Scotland and Wales. The huge subsidies must be adjusted for a start. Lord Barnett, the man behind the Barnett Formula, has stated that it is unfair to England.

What is happening, with prescription fees, availability of cancer medications on the NHS, etc, is a form of racism levelled against every single living person in England. And yet as soon as you mention England, the politically correct crowd squawk "RACIST!"

Bad and batty logic.

And a very dubious UK Government - which has a massively disproportionate number of Scots and Welsh MPs, some of them unaccountable to the electorate in England, in its upper echelons. Are our rulers Little Scotlanders and Waleans?

Just think, when Gordon Brown is PM he won't be accountable to us. Nor will a lot of legislation passed by his government have any impact on his devolved constituents in Scotland.

That's 21st Century democracy, that is!

English Scapegoated, But The Scots And Welsh Are Largely Responsible For Partitioning Ireland!

Firstly, please go to this No 10 E-petition - http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/anthem/ - and consider voting for England to have its own national anthem. The recent Croke Park game has highlighted the inappropriateness of England alone being landed with the British national anthem and all the guilt and nonsense that goes with it. Particularly as quite a lot of the guilt, nonsense and blame heaped upon the English where Ireland is concerned more properly lies with the Scots and Welsh.

Was a country ever scapegoated and abused like England?

Google - St David's Day is OK. What About St George?

So far on our "Google watch" exercise, we've discovered that...
Google does not approve of Christmas.
Does approve of New Year.
And does approve of St David's Day.
A few years ago I remember a St George's Day logo on Google, but that was a few years ago. What's the betting that Google leaves out England's Saint's Day in April, but celebrates St Andrew for Scotland later?
We shall see...

James Paice - The Reply...

At last Drew and Fiona have heard from South East Cambs MP James Paice on the subject of Frank Field's Early Day Motion 670.

The letter is below, with some comments from Drew and Fiona inserted in red:

Thank you for your letter regarding the Early Day Motion referring to opinion polls on the proposal for an English Parliament.

I appreciate your concerns about the impact of current constitutional arrangements which leads some people to the assumption that England is not properly represented
[ Are you saying, with the Barnett Formula, West Lothian Question, NHS discrimination and non-representative MPs, that England IS properly represented, Mr Paice?], but I do not believe that regional assemblies or an English Parliament is the answer [ But English votes on English matters is unworkable].

The creation of an English Parliament would create another costly tier of politicians with an additional layer of bureaucracy that I do not believe that people in England want [ But the UK Government would have to be vastly reduced. Surely this comment is nonsense - quoted from the Conservative Book of Old Cobblers?]

Such a move would also move us towards a federal state which would cause instability due to the disproportionate size of the constituent parts that make up the United Kingdom [So, it's all right for citizens in England to be treated as second rate because of the country's size? Also, a federal UK could work very well. Surely the continuation of the Union should not be placed above the interests and needs of people in England?].

Chris says: Sadly, Mr Paice seems to be one of those head in the sands MPs, happy to sacrifice you, me and everybody else for the good of the Union. A real British gent, no less.

Sod you, dears - if the NHS won't cough up for medication available on the NHS in Scotland, who cares? I certainly don't. I don't use the NHS. And democracy for plebs? Not an issue, I'm afraid.

Chortle, chortle.

Distressing attitude.

Google Dictates...

This sickly picture is Google's way of telling us that St Valentine's Day is OK to celebrate. Since I have been making notes, Google has dictated:
Christmas = Unacceptable = call it "holidays" (those of us who were not on holidays, but who did celebrate Christmas could get lost. We simply were not included in the Google greeting).
New Year = Acceptable - although not everybody celebrates it when we do.
It will be interesting to see which UK saints pass the Google test. I'll be monitoring and reporting here...

All Bow Down: Tony Blair: "The UK - and the world - owe a huge amount to Scottish genius, vision and hard work..."

The headline quote is Tony Blair speaking in Scotland. So, apparently, a major reason why Scots are treated as an elite in the UK is because Scotsman Tony Blair believes that they ARE an elite. That's why their MPs vote on England's legislation. That's why you can die in England for want of medication available on the NHS in Scotland. That's why English pensioners must sell their homes for care when it's free in Scotland.

Scottish genius? What IS Scottish? Any need for DNA testing? Any hint of ridicule? No. Tony Blair is a sick Little Scotlander.

Article here, and you can text him your questions (although I believe that facility is primarily for Scots):

http://www.sundaymail.co.uk/news/tm_headline=united--we-can-make-scotland-even-stronger-&method=full&objectid=18605312&siteid=64736-name_page.html

UPDATE:

Sue Campbell

I can hardly believe he said that. And the rest of the article is just as sick. I know he wants to look after his party's chances, but did he have to appeal to that sick "Scottish Nazi superior race" mentality? It sounds like all the good stuff is a one-way thing, flowing from Scotland outwards.

I reply:

I think he genuinely believes it, Sue. He is boosting the arrogant, racist "Little Scotlander" whilst also trying to snuff out the hopes of the SNP. The rest of us are just UK assorted rabble. The great unwashed. If an English person had said similar to Blair about England and the English, the screams of "Little Englander!" and "racist!" would resound from now till decade's end.

And Blair would be one of the people joining the chant. Sick man. Twisted politician.

Heather Kidd, South Shropshire District Council: The Electorate Is Too Emotional And Must Be Ignored...

The West Midlands NO campaign is a lively organisation, dedicated to stopping a proposed city region in that locality. There has been a recent controversy after the head of communications at Shropshire County Council was caught telling staff how to cheat on a BBC poll aimed at gauging people's opinion on a unitary authority. Read about it here:

http://www.westmidlandsno.org.uk/wordpress/?p=127

And now Heather Kidd, leader of South Shropshire District Council, has decided to ignore the local electorate and go for the unitary authority option....

From the West Midlands NO! Campaign:

Heather Kidd the leader of the South Shropshire District Council:

“It looks like people in south Shropshire probably voted with their hearts rather than their heads - indeed quite a few have told me they did just that.”

In a recent poll to decide the future of the county’s local authorities despite 57 per cent of voters in the district being against the idea of a unitary council, and not even waiting for the results, the submission to the minister was dispatched on the day that the ballot closed, before the results were known.

Heather Kidd said she refuted “that” - it is not clear whether she refuted the submission was sent before the results were known or refuted that it was undemocratic. Not that Mrs Kidd worries much about democracy as she holds her seat on the council after winning the election unopposed, so nobody even had the chance to vote either for or against her.

As usual when the voice of the people go against the EU federalists they are to be ignored, and all the excuses that can be thought of are advanced for doing so. In this case Mrs Kidd argues:

“Surely, if there had been a massive groundswell of feeling against moving towards unitary status, more than 8,156 of our 34,368 voters - less than a quarter of them - would have ticked the ‘no’ box, as it were, and forwarded their vote to the Electoral Reform Society?"

Of course the alternative argument is that if the people had been keen on a unitary council there would have had been a massive groundswell of feeling for moving towards unitary status and voters would have ticked the ‘Yes’ box.

http://www.westmidlandsno.org.uk/wordpress/?p=135

Heather Kidd, Dictator General! WHO told her that they voted with their heart? And surely people are entitled to feel emotionally engaged about how their community is governed?

My dear old auntie Florrie always voted for Neil Kinnock because she liked his accent. People vote for all sorts of reasons. But their views are not usually negated and ignored.

Ruth Kelly, meanwhile, dictates that the status quo is not an option. And yet New Labour brags that it brings decision making closer to the people. This will certainly not!

On a local and national level, the fight for the restoration of democratic rule in England continues.

The likes of Heather Kidd should resign in shame.

Andrew Neil - Purveyor of Truth, Meets Harriet Harman - Purveyor of Old Cobblers...

From Waking Hereward - Andrew Neil tells Harriet Harmon the truth of the matter...

Well I happen to know that in Scotland they have absolutely no plans to introduce classes on Britishness, not now, not for the next 5 years….

The halo on St Harriet’s head, placed there by no less than Pope Tony the Innocent, wobbled..

I'm as much of a vidiot at setting DVD recorders as I was at setting video recorders when my parents first rented one in 1983. So I get to miss the BBC's Daily Politics every time its shown. And my computer is dial-up, so I can't easily watch things on line without lots of lovely pauses for "buffering". Shame. Andrew Neil is a great rarity - an informed man, dedicated to telling it like it is.

Alfie has the wonderful story of when Andrew Neil met Harriet Harman, and informed her of a few facts regarding the issue of teaching "Britishness" but only in England's schools, and the general mood of England regarding devolution issues. Read it here:

My sheer joy at humiliating the English... by Gordon Brown

Scots soccer fans on the rampage at Wembley in 1977. Gordon Brown saluted them.

He claimed Scotland were the real world champions because they beat Bobby Moore's heroes soon afterwards. And he revelled in the 'sheer joy of defeating the English at their own game'.
The Chancellor also saluted Scottish hooligans who tore up the Wembley turf and broke the crossbar after another victory over the English.

In an article entitled Why Scotland Means The World To Me, self-proclaimed "Tartan Army" member Mr Brown invokes ancient battlefield defeats by the English at Flodden and Culloden to explain why he enjoyed beating the Auld Enemy at football so much.

The remarks are in stark contrast to his comments two weeks ago about England's bid to host the competition in 2018, when he said twice that he hoped England would win.
Asked if he meant winning the right to host the tournament or 'win the whole thing', he replied: "Both."

When a row ensued in Scotland, Mr Brown said his first choice would be for Scotland to win the World Cup, but if they were knocked out he would back England.

But he did not cheer for England in his article for the book Football And The Commons People about MP soccer fans, published in 1994, the year Tony Blair become Labour leader and when Mr Brown was Shadow Chancellor.

See the full Daily Mail article here:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=431932&in_page_id=1770&in_page_id=1770

Nowadays thoroughly British Gordy apparently loves England's national football team... Or does he? His treatment of England in general indicates that his competitive dislike of England runs deep and is spread far wider than any sports field.

It's narrow minded Scottish hatred of England that has caused many recent problems and has led to that country abusing English trust and colonising England. I suspect that this is at the root of many of our problems. Coupled with Politically Correct/lazy/corrupt English MPs refusing to do their jobs.

Brown's comments about football indicate that this Scotch apple has not fallen very far from the tree. The man's more twisted than a Rubik's Cube.

Wales: Free Prescriptions - Subsidised By England's Tax Payers... "We've Made The English Jealous!" Gloats Welsh First Minister Rhodri Morgan...

Read the "Daily Express" story here.

"We have never actually managed to make the English jealous before... but we have done it!"

Who said that and what about? Some proud Welsh or Scots sports fan, exclaiming over a run of good results? Er, no, actually - it was Rhodri Morgan, First Minister of the Welsh Assembly, having a crow about the fact that prescription charges are going to be free in Wales from 1st April, but not in England. See the BBC Online article
here.

The way that people in England are now second class citizens on a whole range of health and democratic matters is of great concern. Even more so because Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are heavily subsidised by tax money from England via the Barnett Formula.

The system is unjust, twisted, corrupt - creating a tiny and all-powerful elite in the UK. But "jealous"?! I personally don't feel jealous. I like Wales. Good fortune that comes its way is usually something I'd celebrate. But this is plain unfair. I know people in England who struggle to meet prescription charges but do not qualify for any help at all.

I feel outraged.

I worry about the voters of the UK, electing the likes of Blair, Brown, Prescott and Morgan. I worry about our Scots-born Prime Minister, and our Scots-born Prime Minister in waiting, both of whom see no need for parity for England in the devolution stakes. All have got a screw loose in my humble opinion.

Things will change. The people of England will not be ignored, ripped off and gloated over for much longer.

Alfie says it all
here.

More soon,

Drew

UPDATE...

I believe that Rhodri Morgan is unbalanced and his comments are evidence of some bizarre kind of hatred of people in England. The man should not be in politics. His attitude is rife, although not often displayed as overtly, amongst MPs from Scotland and Wales. This is why the Union must be ended. These people have been bred on anti-English lies for generations. We cannot trust them and cannot work with them.

"Britishness" Indoctrination - But Only In English Schools - And The Silence Of MPs...

Chris is on holiday and has asked that I keep the blog fires burning.

I was disturbed to read on the BBC site that the idea of children in schools in England being taught "core Britishness values" has now been recommended.

Note: only in English schools. Not in Scottish schools. Not in Welsh schools.

The England Project has a link to the BBC story and John says:

The British state will try to educate everybody’s children in how wonderful Britishness is. Only in England of course because in the area of education Westminster effectively has no say over the whole of Britain. That aspect of Britishness will not be taught in English schools. They will teach this in the hope of scratching back some of the ground that they have lost with their policy failures. During this education they will discuss all kinds of things but what they cannot do is instil a sense of Britishness in pupils in isolation of British institutions. They will talk about democracy. They will talk about freedom. They will talk about the institutions that we have created to frame and help protect these concepts…..and they will, at all costs, try to avoid discussing those institutions within the devolution environment. Sure they will mention the various parliaments but they will not, because they cannot afford to, discuss the real world results of those institutions. You cannot have little schoolboys and schoolgirls in England told that they are treated differently from children in Scotland and Wales.

Very disturbing.

Sylv from Salford

When I was a kid in the 1970s, TV and schools and just about everything told us that Royalty was great. But I didn't believe that and asked some very difficult questions about the Royal family "living off the fat of the land" in discussions at school. Why? Because my parents were anti-Royal and they were a much more powerful influence on me than school or anything else.

Enough parents nowadays are discontented with the British thing to ensure that "Britishness" classes are no sweet, easily swallowed bowl of baloney. Questions will be asked by kids, and statements refuted in favour of "My Mum/Dad says..."

My daughter has left school, but if she had been facing these indoctrination classes, for that is what they are, I would have raised merry hell with the head teacher.

Having been ignored by the UK Government in our quest for democratic rule, I don't think this force-feeding of "Britishness" to children in England will be easily accomplished. In fact, I don't think it will be accomplished at all. This Government is transparent and utterly dispicable.

An occupying force, no less.

Jack Straw: His Determination to Subjugate and Demonise England and the English...

How the BBC chose to portray English nationalists in the year 2000, with Jack Straw denouncing us as violent bastards. William's there as he had his two penn'orth in the article.

Jack Straw: "I should be delighted to hold a debate on perceived threats to the Union, one of which is the unacceptable proposal for an English Parliament, with the implication that it is all very simple to deliver..."

Mr Straw also makes plain that he will only hold such a debate if he can find the time. The wishes of the electorate in England are not a priority. Also note that Mr Straw makes plain that the proposal is unacceptable. Of course. Open minded debate and fair legislation would probably put New Labour out in the cold in England and Mr Straw would have to get off the gravy train.

This New Labour fascist has made plain his hatred for the English on several occasions. Remember this from the BBC in 2000?

Home Secretary Jack Straw says the English had used their "propensity to violence to subjugate Ireland, Wales and Scotland" on the Radio 4 programme Brits. The broadcast is examining what it now means to be British.

Mr Straw will describe the English as "potentially very aggressive, very violent" and will "increasingly articulate their Englishness following devolution."

This is not a reasonable view. It sounds terribly dramatic, but Mr Straw's statement is clear evidence of hatred for the English and England. Read the report
here.

Mr Straw has clearly not changed. The man is an anti-English bigot and a dictator. Then. Now. Forever?

UPDATE...

Sue Campbell

Strawman's comment about the English being potentially very aggressive, very violent, and his warning that they will "increasingly articulate their Englishness following devolution" points to two things.

1) Straw's hatred of the English, and his determination to subjugate and discredit them. Of course, being New Labour, he considers himself British and, being well-off, he doesn't suffer from the inequalities of devolution.

2) Straw's devious nature. He was fully aware even back then that the devolution settlement was not fair to England, knew that Englishness WOULD be increasingly articulated as a result, so sought to discredit Englishness and get recent immigrants and the chattering classes on side by inferring that anybody proclaiming themselves English and/or demanding parity for England was a thug.

The man is a complete and utter sleazeball.

UPDATE 2

Hazel

Don't you think you're being a bit unfair to Jack Straw? You missed out the part about him wanting a positive sense of Englishness?

I reply...

And also the part about us being more European. Another dictate. I'm not against the EU, but I am as it currently stands. Take it to the people!

No, I don't believe I'm hard on Mr Straw. The man stated that the English are "potentially very aggressive, very violent", apparently more so than anybody else in the UK, and then gives a biased view of UK history painting England as whip master. What he says is untrue and, in my opinion, reveals some sort of loathing for England.

His peremptory rejection of calls from the majority of people in England for an English Parliament last week reveals that he is still dedicated to dictating to England and still has no sympathy for our plight.

UPDATE 3...

Greg from Cumbria

I'm with you, Chris. Jack Straw is one of those grotty people who regards themselves as liberal fairness incarnate - and is actually exactly the opposite. The man is nothing more nor less than a conniving Little Hitler.

The Great "Celtic" Comfort Blanket...

"The justification for England's enforced generosity to its neighbours used to be that they needed it. Now, however, we know that Britain's poorest areas are in London. The real reason for the Great Celtic Comfort Blanket can no longer be disguised: it's simply a bribe to buy quiescence. For the English, the people of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have become the UK's whining children, forever threatening to wet their knickers in public unless they're given a lolly. They'll go independent unless they can have their own parliament which, by the way, will need a £400m building. They'll starve themselves to death unless they can have their own TV channel. They'll protract their dreary, sectarian squabble unless English politicians organise them a peace process. They repay the English for conceding these demands by blowing them up, burning down their homes and, even worse, supporting their opponents on the football field."

Anti-England Tory Leader David Cameron Strikes Again!

Interesting news from the English Democrats site. Apparently Tory leader David Cameron has stated on BBC News 24: "I don't want an English Parliament". The electorate wants it, but David doesn't. Not surprising when one considers his vehemently anti-English stance last year - more about that here.

See the full English Democrats post here:
UPDATE
Karen, Leeds
I shall never, ever forget the way that Cameron has stuck the knife into England. Not once, but several times. "Sour little Englanders"? And now, despite recent poll results, the man still won't listen to reason. David Cameron is not really a Unionist. He does not want a fair, democratic Union. He does not like England or the English and has made that plain. David Cameron is a sour and completely unreasonable Little Scotlander.
The Conservative Party is finished, just like New Labour. New parties, like the English Democrats, must now emerge to take centre stage.

BBC Newsnight - State of the Union? Arse Licking Farce!

The BBC's Newsnight on Tuesday, 16th January, supposedly had the future of the Union as its subject, but, strangely enough, was jammed full of Scots and hardly an English opinion was to be heard.

Matthew Parris was a disgrace - what a creep that man is. About as much use as a chocolate teapot. Kelvin Mackenzie was interesting. Christine Constable of the English Democrats was marvelous - given the shortness of time allotted to her. Scilla Cullen, of the Campaign for an English Parliament, had flown to Edinburgh to appear only to be told that she would not be allowed to comment as the English were "over-represented". What? The programme was then stuffed so full of Scots it was obscene!

We know that the BBC is an anti-English organisation. We know that it is chockablock with arrogant anti-English types like Kirsty Wark (remember her comment on discovering that she had non-Scottish ancestry? "At least they weren't English!"). But this is ridiculous. We pay the majority of the BBC funding. The continual spotlighting of the Scots' perspective is absurd. There are over 50 million people in England, 5 million in Scotland.

The show was a disgrace, an absolute Scotch arse licking farce. It serves to remind us that once democracy is restored to England, major surgery must be carried out at the BBC.

10 Downing Street E-Petition - Reply To English Parliament Petition...

For those of us who signed the recent e-petition on the 10 Downing Street web site, a reply to our demand for parity in the UK has now been provided by No 10. We asked for a referendum for the people of England, like that granted to Scotland, but instead have received, via Government dictate, the news that our status as second class citizens of the UK is assured for the forseeable future...

There are no plans to establish a separate parliament for England. The four components of the United Kingdom have their own histories and distinct national identities, as well as different administrative structures, size and population.

As a result, the Government believes that different approaches and solutions are appropriate to address the differences that exist between the components that comprise the United Kingdom. The starting point for England is not the same as it was in Scotland and Wales.

The Government believes that the establishment of an English Parliament would not be of real benefit to the people of England. As the population of England accounts for 84 per cent of the UK population, this would mean that an English Parliament would only be slightly smaller than the current UK Parliament.

Such a move would not, therefore, contribute significantly towards bringing people in England closer to the decision making process, which is one of the cornerstones of devolution. The Government therefore has no plans at present to provide for an English Parliament.

Different starting points? The Union began as a union of nations. Why are Scotland and Wales allowed to be nations and England not? The UK Government should not be in a position to dictate. It is made up of the nations, and should adhere to the wishes of each nation.

The people of England in several recent polls have made their wishes clear. They want an English parliament.

And devolution brings decision making closer to the electorate? Regionalisation in England takes it further away. How the counties/regions of England are governed is not the primary concern of the UK Government. It should be decided by the people of England, via national representation. By a national parliament. Just like the one awarded to Scotland.

Sorry, New Labour, your reply to our e-petition is another transparent piece of dictatorial nonsense.

UPDATE...

Sue Campbell

It is up to us to decide how England is governed, and regions DO make local government more remote and unaccountable. Basically, we have a racist UK Government who have created a "Celtic" elite. They are entitled to the best of everything in Wales and (especially) Scotland, we get the dregs, are lorded it over, and HAVE to foot the bills for "Celtic" high living.

UPDATE 2

Richard Barrett

The UK Government is taking power away from the people in refusing a referendum for England. No UK nation should be a PRISONER of the UK Government.

The UK Government is a corrupt monster, a haven for gravy train riders, EU career seekers and Scottish Rajists - committed to the continued abuse of England and its people.

Lorna McAllister of Glasgow - Smug, Anti-English Bigot Displays Her Knowledge On The BBC Site...

The article is now a bit out of date, but I came across it on the Beeb - it asks for comments about this topic:

Increasing demands on social services and less money to go round have led councils in England to restrict access to services such as home care, day services and respite care. The Commission for Social Care Inspection today warned this was happening by default, and without debate. Have you or a relative been told by your council you don't qualify for support to live at home? Do you have to rely on family or friends to help you? Are you a carer filling in the gaps?

Lorna McAllister, of Glasgow, wrote in –

How English! Look to your neighbours. We use our taxes more wisely. Scotland provides free personal care for its elderly. England simply has to do the same……

Crumbs, Lorna, I can see political knowledge isn't your strong point. Don't you know that there is no "English" government and that the UK Government is top-heavy with Scots? Don't you know that your big hearted Scots Chancellor sends sack-loads of English taxes up to Scotland to pay for better services/social benefit payments in his own country?

Look to your neighbour? In the case of England, Scotland often does that - it robs us blind and doesn't give a damn.

It's also interesting that the BBC printed the comment "How English!" from Lorna. Would the BBC have printed bigoted, ignorant snipes about any other group? Of course not!

I've been reading things on certain sites from Scots claiming that Scotland would not lose much financially if it split. That is genuinely good news. As long as that assumption is not based on the premise that Scotland walks off with England's share of the North Sea oil. We haven't forgotten the maritime boundary tweaking carried out by the UK Government.

UPDATE

Sue Campbell

I read the Scottish press quite a lot, and there are a lot of comments like that in certain publications. Lorna is pretty typical. The North Sea oil issue is a hot potato. I read a letter from a Scot this morning smugly claiming that Scotland would only be a billion pounds worse off without English subsidies. Suspect figures - even without giving Scotland England's oil revenue. Even worse, the letter claimed that Wales and Northern Ireland would be bankrupt. This is further evidence of Scots' appalling smugness, selfishness and self delusion. England's relationships with Northern Ireland and Wales should Scotland leave the Union are up to those three countries to decide.

New Poll - Electorates In England & Scotland Want To Split - Power Hungry Gordon Brown Refuses To Listen...

From the Mail:

A majority of voters in both Scotland and England want the countries to split.

Failing that, both think England should have a Parliament of its own deciding on English affairs without any involvement of Scottish MPs.

The poll findings demonstrate deep and potentially fatal cracks in the 300-year union of the two countries, and threaten to present Gordon Brown with a constitutional crisis if he becomes Prime Minister.

In a further blow to Mr Brown, a majority in both countries want him to call an election within a year of coming to power, to secure his own mandate from the voters.

The ICM survey of attitudes on the Union and nationality was commissioned by the Daily Mail in advance of next week's 300th anniversary of the ratification of the treaty which bound Scotland and England together.

It shows that nearly half of those polled think the arrangement is unlikely to survive more than 25 years.

Two out of three English voters want an end to the subsidies paid to Scotland, and a majority want to end the anomaly that gives Scots MPs at Westminster a say over legislation which affects only England.

Just 31 per cent of people in England say they are British first, and only 15 per cent in Scotland.

Read the rest of this article here:

http://www.mailonsunday.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=428266&in_page_id=1770

So, another poll - this one showing clearly that the people of Scotland and England want to split. Yet Gordon Brown, non-Representative (in England) PM in waiting, is still blethering on about the good of the Union.

Shut up, you silly little sod. We want a proper health service in England, access to life-prolonging medications in line with Scotland and Wales, elected national representation, an end to unelected dictates from unelected regional assemblies and the mechanisations of corrupt local government vermin trying to set up "city regions", we want our money spent on OUR public services.

Scotland, your own country, wants out too.

LISTEN TO THE ELECTORATE.

As The Government And Mainstream Opposition Parties Neglect And Discriminate Against England, The BNP Makes Hay...

With England being the only nation on the island of Britain to be unrecognised by the UK Government and mainstream opposition parties, the odious BNP have begun making hay with members of an electorate which is demoralised, downtrodden and has nowhere else to look.

Think about this...

People in Scotland and Wales can be Scottish, Welsh and British. There are efforts to foster a civic national indentity for those countries, regardless of ethnic origins. In England, there is no encouragement of an English civic identity. Anybody can be of English nationality, but as there is no political recognition of England as a unit within Britain, that counts for nought. BRITISH is force fed to us every day of the year.

Having no political recognition as a nation within Britain means that England gets poorer health care, poorer education provision, poorer residential care, and charges for health and residential care which are free in Scotland and Wales.

In England, life prolonging drugs available on the NHS in Scotland and Wales are not available to us.

Scots Westminster MPs rule on English issues, sometimes overturning the will of our representative MPs, imposing unpopular legislation like foundation hospitals and university top-up fees on us. The Scots Parliament has begun to extend its territory into England, ruling certain English rivers. The maritime boundary has been altered to give Scotland most of England's share of the North Sea Oil - we were not consulted.

And so, people in England become disgruntled. Then angry. But nobody listens.

"English votes on English matters," squawk the Tories, whilst their leader brags of Scots blood in his veins and slags off the English during a speech in Scotland.

"We've always backed devolution for the others!" say the Lib Dems, proudly. "But as for England... no, the current set-up isn't fair but we're not rocking the boat to restore democracy."

"I wanna be Prime Minister and I don't care about equality for England!" hints Gordon Brown. "England is BRITAIN, BRITAIN, BRITAIN! Democratic deficit? Think BRITISH!!"

And similar nonsensical cobblers.

And so the BNP seize their chance and start making inroads. No, Guardian reading elite folk, it's not the fault of a knuckle dragging electorate, it's the fault of the UK Government for delivering unfair and uneven devolution which ignores England and discriminates against its people at every turn. It's the fault of the mainstream opposition parties for putting their rosy careers and the bizarre continuation of pre-devolution UK style rule for England before democracy.

Yep, the BNP are making hay.

And the Government and mainstream opposition parties are entirely to blame.

We must all demand that the mainstream politicians act to restore democratic rule to England and begin to look after England as a nation within the UK, in line with Scotland.

The BNP MUST be kept at bay. And England must be justly treated.

Google: "Happy Holidays"? How Thoughtless and Insensitive!

So, Google flashed "happy holidays" up for Christmas, and a crap tale of kangaroos doing knitting (I kid you not), but decided that New Year was OK, so flashed up "Happy New Year".

A few points...

1) Like many care workers, I was hard at work over the "holiday", so "happy holidays" seems smug and insensitive to me. So, you had a holiday? Lucky Google!

2) Not everybody celebrates New Year when we do, so why is that acceptable? Google really do piss me off. Why can't they just stick to being a search engine, and stop imposing their priggish crap on us? There are too many organisations like Google which seek to dictate to the majority and tell us that our customs and traditions are simply not acceptable.

ENOUGH!
