Andy Burnham - Let's Set England Against Itself. Ignore the Poor across the Country. Barnett Formula? Wonderful!

The Celtic (1707 linguistic term from Welsh Nationalist Edward Lhuyd, not an ancient UK ethnicity) myth and all things horrible, Andy Burnham. Look after the Scots, Welsh and Northern Irish (don't mention Darien, disproportionate activity by the Scots in the British Empire, the partitioning of Ireland by a Welsh PM with avid backing of Protestant Scots, the invention of the Poll Tax by Scotsman Douglas Mason and its implementation there in 1989 by its own Secretary of State, Wales as separate rivalries and kingdoms, not an ancient, unified country) and pander to their one-side retellings of history. And as for the far more ethnically diverse England? Stuff that!

Isn't it gross that it looks like we're getting a non-elected PM, with no loyalty to England (he has bragged of Scots and Irish blood - very odd and rather racist), who wants to break England further into pieces? Well, all UK, Scots and Welsh MPs favour that, of course.

Burnham is, of course, co-author of Head North (featuring a UK outline mainly featuring nationally devolved Scotland on its cover).

Now, the Barnett Formula and West Lothian Question - producing fiscal and democratic deficits for England - will continue, although Burnham once mentioned 'tearing up' the Barnett Formula. But nobody wants to upset the fierce Tiny Scotlanders.

Burnham wants an office in the North. The North of where? Well, he didn't mention it by name, but he obviously means England as Scotland has its own domestic parliament, higher per capita spending from the UK tax pot (Barnett Formula), a Scottish Minister in the UK Parliament, non-representative MPs in the UK Parliament helping pass legislation on England (West Lothian Question), and free prescriptions for millionaires. Wales has that too.

Lord Joel Barnett, creator of the Barnett Formula, later decried it repeatedly as unfair to people across England. Burnham tries to divide and rule by caricaturing southern and eastern England as 'haves' and the North as 'have nots'. In reality, the picture is far more nuanced, with appalling areas of poverty across the South and East.

Three of the poorest streets in England in the English Indices were found to be in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, in recent years.

Burnham, a Cambridge University grad himself, is a totally silly divide and ruler.

Keep the UK Parliament gravy train going, continue to pander to nationalistic nonsense from Scotland and Wales (who are far from innocent in UK history) and sod the vast majority in England.

The UK's most ethnically diverse country by far.

And he brags of having Irish blood. No such thing. DNA studies have taken all that nonsense apart, and waving that as a flag of inclusivity and diversity is ridiculous.

Just above the poverty line Saleem in Great Yarmouth pays nearly £10 per prescription item. Super rich Angus in Edinburgh or Cerys in Cardiff get them free.

Meanwhile, the UK gravy train of divide, rule and discriminate against England continues.

It's driven by anti-English/England attitudes, and the refusal of anybody in politics to speak for England. A lot of Scots and Welsh arguments could have been discussed years ago, and refuted where necessary. It never happened. So, England became the rump of the UK, with Scots and Welsh bile unchallenged, and more and more privileges for those tiny elites in those far less ethnically diverse UK countries.

Diversity, equity and inclusion?

After asymmetric national devolution kicked off in the late 1990s, England was reviled by Labour politician Jack Straw, the then Home Secretary (!) on the BBC. All the one-side, completely unchallenged, bile from Scotland and Wales was trumpeted, and Straw described the English as 'very violent' and said England has subjugated the other countries.

I'm sorry, UK history is not a history of saintly countries and one sinner country. Any objective viewer can see that. It is not a Marxist oppressed/oppressor narrative made real. The fact that the very ill-informed, rather bigoted Straw chose to revile the country he was elected in, was even more remarkable.

What Jack Straw said to the BBC in 2000 - demonizing England, which, of course, had no nationally representative government even then! Perfectly natural, surely, in light of non-accountable politicians from devolved UK nations voting on England's domestic legislation (West Lothian Question), and the Barnett Formula - awarding more money to less ethnically diverse UK nations largely out of the English tax pots, that England should be questioning? Since then, UK politicians have kept their 'UK' gravy train safely on the rails by hardly ever mentioning England, confusing voters in England as to what is UK-wide legislation or simply English, and planning to hack it up, in deference to sanctimonious bigotry from Scotland and Wales.

Let's balance reality a bit by looking objectively at Scotland and Wales:

Darien; the Darien bail-out; disproportionate Scots' activity in the British Empire; clan warfare; the fact that Wales was not a unified ancient nation but factions and kingdoms - fighting each other; the Celtic linguistic term from Welsh Nationalist Edward Lhuyd, expanded into a fake ancient and exclusive ethnicity; the invention of the Poll Tax by Scotsman Douglas Mason and its implementation there a year early by its own Secretary of State; the partitioning of Ireland by a Welsh Prime Minister with avid backing of Protestant Scots; The Clearances - by the Scots themselves, not the English...

And the Scots and Welsh Nationalists then climbed into their fake pulpits to denounce England as the sole UK wrong-doer.

And the UK Parliament went along with it for asymmetric national devolution, including the disgracefully one-sided statements of Jack Straw.

Funnily enough, the British nationality is only a few hundred years old. It was intended as a pan-Britain identity at the time of the union with Scotland. The time of Empire. So, with the UK Government tying to instill 'British' values in everyone in England, what are they? Colonisation?

Some Scottish Nats like to argue that the oil off its coastline belongs to Scotland alone. Of course it doesn't. Scotland was bailed out by England after its disastrous Darien colonisation attempt, and then made a huge splash on the world stage and enormous amounts of dosh from the British Empire, being disproportionately active. Made possible by the union with England.

And it has benefitted hugely from asymmetric national devolution, the Barnett Formula (from 1978) and another formula, Goschen, from 1888, giving it higher funding.

I'm afraid a union is a union, and that doesn't mean what's England's is also Scotland's, but a natural resource off Scotland's coastline is Scotland's alone.

And the oil receipts don't nearly cover Scotland's funding and UK benefits over the centuries.

From the UK Parliament website: big money for Scotland. Meanwhile, England is to be hacked up into divisive, expensive tinpot regions, and still receive lower per capita spending (Barnett Formula) AND still suffer a democratic deficit via the West Lothian Question. You cannot demonise England and treat it as the UK residual, which the UK Parliament does, while sponsoring national fervour and entrenched exclusiveness elsewhere in the nation. Nations and regions? In a union of four countries?

But the last laugh may be on Burnham and the racist UK Parliament. By dividing England into regions with Mayors and other officials, it's highly likely there'll soon be a great reckoning about who has what - and that includes the democratic and fiscal privileges delivered to Scotland and Wales.

Destabilising England is, in our view, the fastest way to destabilise the so-called UK. It's been treated as the rump of the UK since devolution, and often before, with Wales and Scotland having Secretaries of State, and the Barnett Formula, dating back to 1978.

And Scotland had the Goschen Formula, dating from 1888, to favour it financially before that..

Highlighting the true haves and have nots across Britain by regionalising England should provoke some interesting times, amidst lots of expensive new politicians and raised voices.

Domestic parliaments for all the UK nations and a vastly slimmed down UK Parliament for pan-UK legislation is the simple answer. Then England could decide on its own internal governance with no need for further devolution. Counties were rather good.

But the UK Parliament gravy train refuses to let go of England.

This way is going to be very messy and noisy.

Well, the UK Parliament has denied England for so long, it will be fun to watch as its chickens come home to roost.

CEP Press Release: No smoke without fire: secrecy over devolution (The Jack Straw Veto)

Yesterday (10 December), Jack Straw vetoed releasing the minutes of a 1997 Cabinet Ministerial Committee Meeting on Devolution to Scotland and Wales and the English Regions. He stated that releasing the information would be against the public interest, citing the doctrine of collective responsibility, although the disclosure had previously been approved by the Information Commissioner on June 23rd 2009.

According to the Ministry of Justice, this is only the second time since the Freedom of Information Act was introduced in 2005 that a request granted by an Information Tribunal has been vetoed out of 160,000 requests. The previous occasion on which the veto was imposed was in February 2009 in respect of the disclosure of the minutes of two cabinet meetings leading up to the Iraq war.

What are Jack Straw and the Ministry of Justice so concerned with concealing? What was said in a meeting about devolution that was so dangerous that it can‘t be made public? What deals were done to break up England and preserve the dominance of Scottish politicians? The English public deserves to know.

This meeting, twelve years ago, led to an asymmetric devolution settlement which is to the great disadvantage of England. The Campaign for an English Parliament believes that action must be taken to deliver a fair and democratic constitutional settlement for England. Lift the veto, Jack, and let us in on the decisions you made.

The English Hating Jack Straw - What He Thinks Of England - Never Forget...

Anti-English bigot Jack Straw declares that the English are the violent and oppressive scourge of the UK .

Back in 2000, Jack Straw, now "Justice Secretary" let rip with a history-rewriting anti-English rant at the BBC:

Speaking in the BBC Radio 4 documentary, Brits, Mr Straw will say that the English used their propensity to violence, "in Europe and with our empire".

"I think what you have within the UK is three small nations who've been over the centuries under the cosh of the English," he tells the programme.

"Those small nations have inevitably sought expression by a very explicit idea of nationhood."

Absolute Anglophobic cobblers.

For a start, Wales was a principality of England for centuries. Far too small in those days to be a 'nation' in its own right, although recognised as a country within the kingdom of England - Britain did not exist as a nation, England did. A lot of Welsh bigotry is based on myths and legends - the Celtic myth of 1707, for example. Scotland also has more a jugful of that nonsense in its makeup.

'Celtic Nations'? Exclusive, racist baloney! The Barnett Formula (loathed by its late creator, Lord Joel Barnett), asymmetric national devolution, and the resulting West Lothian Question are all examples of the wilful discrimination carried out by the 'UK' Government against its largest and most ethnically diverse country, England.

Oh, and who got the asymmetric national devolution ball rolling? Yep, Tony Blair, a Scots PM.

Serving the five million people of his homeland so very well!

Historically, Scotland was far from innocent in skirmishes with the English (Braveheart is bigoted, jingoistic fiction) and was disproportionately active in the British Empire - and, indeed, had bankrupted itself before its union with England on a colonisation project of its own.

And blame the English for the whole Irish situation? Ah, so Scotland and Wales erect their pulpits and climb into them yet again, do they? And what about the fact that Ireland was partitioned by Lloyd George, a Welsh PM, with full backing of Scots protestants?

And the IRA were happily bombing England.

Don't forget.

Jack Straw - Mr Anti-English/Anti-England: England Needs Watching Because The English Are So Violent...

Jack Straw, via Toque:

"Is big brother watching you? Are you – innocent and law-abiding – kept awake at night for fear that your door will be kicked in by agents of the state?"

Yes, if a good friend of this blog, a care worker in his early forties, with no police record, arrested on the piffling accusation of one other person, without witnesses, treated like a criminal at Parkside Police Station, Cambridge, released without charge, but now on the DNA Database for life (and, we suppose beyond) is anything to go by.

Jack Straw hates the English. He hates England. Remember this, from the BBC?

Home Secretary Jack Straw says the English had used their "propensity to violence to subjugate Ireland, Wales and Scotland" on the Radio 4 programme Brits.

(Click on red text for more).

The comment shows more than anything Jack Straw's contempt and hatred for England and the English. The fact that he sometimes attempts to muddy the waters by describing himself as "English" is simply a ploy. Jack Straw is British. Nationality is largely a state of mind in the UK and he is British. An English-hating, deceitful, slime-ball Brit at that.

But it seems that Mr Straw thinks the Police State, the loss of individual freedoms in England, is justified. Accept he will never admit there is a Police State. According to him, crime is falling.

Obviously making Orwell's 1984 reality and keeping the people of England, with their "propensity to violence" (the entire English population, according to Straw in his BBC quote) in a Police State, and then denying there is one, is justified.

Jack Straw Is "Driven Nuts" By Jargon -The English Are Driven Nuts By Anti-English Bigot Jack Straw...

Oh dear! Jack Straw is "driven nuts" by jargon! What a tragedy!

This is the same thoroughly bigoted Jack Straw who besmirched the English as "violent" and rewrote UK history, casting England as a violent villain.

From the BBC:

Home Secretary Jack Straw says the English had used their "propensity to violence to subjugate Ireland, Wales and Scotland" on the Radio 4 programme Brits.

When evil bigots like Straw start spouting off in outrage about anything, no matter how trivial, it's often good to remind them that perhaps they really shouldn't be in a position to shout about anything on the political stage.

Whenever we hear big bigot Jack Straw spouting off in his sanctominous "I am God" manner, we want to be very ill indeed.

And as it turns out, his own department is guilty of the "jargon" he bleats about, as is the rest of the UK Government. That's just typical!

The Ministry of Justice Has No Sense Of Justice When It Comes To England's Plight... After All, Jack Straw Hates The English...

According to the Ministry of Justice, it is fine to have two tiers of MPs at Westminster - those who are accountable to their constituents (in England) - and those who are not - those MPs from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland voting on legislation for England. Like Top Up Fees. And Foundation Hospitals.

Good heavens - Jack Straw is Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State For Justice. Well, fancy that! Shiver me timbers!

What a just man he is! Mind you, he doesn't like the English. He's been known to make incredibly bigoted comments about the English and warped statements about British history.

Remember this one from the BBC (click on text for link)?

Home Secretary Jack Straw says the English had used their "propensity to violence to subjugate Ireland, Wales and Scotland"

Perhaps Mr Straw's skewed and biased views on the English might explain why, when English people like Gareth Young write to the Ministry Of Justice, they get piffle and bunkum like this in return:

Your first concern is on the voting rights of non-English MPs in Westminster. The Government is against discrimination of any kind and would not consider the introduction of any legislation intended to prevent any British citizen from becoming a member of the UK Parliament solely on the basis of where they were born. More specifically, you referred to Gordon Brown being an MP for a constituency in Scotland. Under our electoral system the public does not elect a Prime Minister. Voters elect a single political party representative within a specified constituency. Gordon Brown, the member for Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath, has been elected to represent his constituents and therefore legitimately holds a seat in the UK Parliament. Gordon Brown is also leader of the Labour Party. As leader of the party with the majority of seats in the House of Commons, Gordon Brown is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

Gareth's point was, of course, about democratic accountability. The Ministry Of Justice (!) deliberately ignores that fact.

Seems very twisted indeed.

And remember, if you're English, its leader, Jack Straw, has you marked down as a nasty piece of work - much nastier than any of those lovely Scots, Welsh and Irish folk - you're a subjugator, no less!

Talk about projection!

CEP Press Release - Senior Government Ministers Oppose Solutions To The English Question

Michael Knowles of the Campaign for an English Parliament and Head of its Media Unit has criticised Gordon Brown, author of the Queen's Speech, for failing even to mention the biggest constitutional issue in the UK today, namely the English Question, and three of Brown's senior government ministers for opposing anything being done about it.

The English Question is the situation the UK is now in in which Scotland, Wales and NI each have formal constitutional and political recognition as distinct nations and self-rule, which they did not have before devolution, while England has neither. As a consequence Scotland, Wales and NI can grant themselves such benefits as free prescriptions and free university education, denied to the people of England. In addition Scottish, Welsh and NI MPs have kept their right to make laws for England's internal affairs like health and education while English MPs have no say at all in the internal affairs of Scotland, NI and Wales.

In the Queen's Speech the Prime Minister Gordon Brown, MP for Kirkaldy and Cowdenbeath in Scotland, excluded all mention from the Queen's Speech of the discrimination England is being subjected to. In the Common's debates that followed, both the Lord Chancellor/Justice Minister Jack Straw and the Secretary of State for Wales Peter Hain have expressed total opposition to England having its own parliament like Scotland has and even to English MPs alone being able to make laws which affect England only. Mr Straw claimed that either solution 'would wrench the UK apart' even though he and his party were the MPs who gave Scotland its own parliament and Wales its own assembly.

Mr Straw and Mr Hain, both Labour party ministers, oppose devolution for England because they fear that it would be the Conservatives who would hold a majority in an English Parliament. They also oppose English MPs alone having the right to make laws for England's internal affairs because they calculate that without Scottish and Welsh MPs Labour would not be able to rule in England. In other words they regard the issue of England purely from the perspective of party advantage.

Mr Alistair Darling, Chancellor of the Exchequer and MP for Edinburgh South West, has called for an end to any discussion of the English Question. As a Scottish MP he looks at the English Question from the perspective of what is of advantage to Scotland. His worry is that devolution for England, particularly in the form of an English Parliament with the same powers and responsibilities as the Scottish Parliament, will reduce Scottish influence over English matters and the number of Scottish MPs in the Union parliament. The Campaign for an English Parliament has written to Mr Brown and his colleagues demanding that England is treated in the Union equally with Scotland.

Jack Straw: His Determination to Subjugate and Demonise England and the English...

How the BBC chose to portray English nationalists in the year 2000, with Jack Straw denouncing us as violent bastards. William's there as he had his two penn'orth in the article.

Jack Straw: "I should be delighted to hold a debate on perceived threats to the Union, one of which is the unacceptable proposal for an English Parliament, with the implication that it is all very simple to deliver..."

Mr Straw also makes plain that he will only hold such a debate if he can find the time. The wishes of the electorate in England are not a priority. Also note that Mr Straw makes plain that the proposal is unacceptable. Of course. Open minded debate and fair legislation would probably put New Labour out in the cold in England and Mr Straw would have to get off the gravy train.

This New Labour fascist has made plain his hatred for the English on several occasions. Remember this from the BBC in 2000?

Home Secretary Jack Straw says the English had used their "propensity to violence to subjugate Ireland, Wales and Scotland" on the Radio 4 programme Brits. The broadcast is examining what it now means to be British.

Mr Straw will describe the English as "potentially very aggressive, very violent" and will "increasingly articulate their Englishness following devolution."

This is not a reasonable view. It sounds terribly dramatic, but Mr Straw's statement is clear evidence of hatred for the English and England. Read the report
here.

Mr Straw has clearly not changed. The man is an anti-English bigot and a dictator. Then. Now. Forever?

UPDATE...

Sue Campbell

Strawman's comment about the English being potentially very aggressive, very violent, and his warning that they will "increasingly articulate their Englishness following devolution" points to two things.

1) Straw's hatred of the English, and his determination to subjugate and discredit them. Of course, being New Labour, he considers himself British and, being well-off, he doesn't suffer from the inequalities of devolution.

2) Straw's devious nature. He was fully aware even back then that the devolution settlement was not fair to England, knew that Englishness WOULD be increasingly articulated as a result, so sought to discredit Englishness and get recent immigrants and the chattering classes on side by inferring that anybody proclaiming themselves English and/or demanding parity for England was a thug.

The man is a complete and utter sleazeball.

UPDATE 2

Hazel

Don't you think you're being a bit unfair to Jack Straw? You missed out the part about him wanting a positive sense of Englishness?

I reply...

And also the part about us being more European. Another dictate. I'm not against the EU, but I am as it currently stands. Take it to the people!

No, I don't believe I'm hard on Mr Straw. The man stated that the English are "potentially very aggressive, very violent", apparently more so than anybody else in the UK, and then gives a biased view of UK history painting England as whip master. What he says is untrue and, in my opinion, reveals some sort of loathing for England.

His peremptory rejection of calls from the majority of people in England for an English Parliament last week reveals that he is still dedicated to dictating to England and still has no sympathy for our plight.

UPDATE 3...

Greg from Cumbria

I'm with you, Chris. Jack Straw is one of those grotty people who regards themselves as liberal fairness incarnate - and is actually exactly the opposite. The man is nothing more nor less than a conniving Little Hitler.

This blog is supportive of the aims of the Campaign for an English Parliament, but is in no way connected.

BBC Mangles Islamic Extremist Truth - But Sticks The Boot Into The English...

From BBC online...

A few years ago, anti-English racist Jack Straw slagged us off on the BBC, calling us "violent" and accusing us of "subjugating" the other UK nations (William Hague was simply a bore). The unbiased BBC saw fit to provide a picture of "typical" Englishmen as a background for the article's illustration. Straw remains committed to the oppression of the people of England by the British State, and wastes no opportunity to tell lies about England's history, presenting the country in the worst light possible. Mr Straw also specialises in twisting the facts regarding devolution.

Whilst having no respect for those who identify themselves as English, the BBC will go to absurd lengths, misrepresenting and mangling the news, to appease certain groups in the UK.

President Bush: "This nation [the USA] is at war with Islamic fascists".

The BBC, reporting this statement, removed "Islamic" and altered the wording to "extremists" - because, of course, it is not Politically Correct to offend Islamic fascists. There's more about Auntie and her sick mangling of the facts on Drinking From Home -
here and here.

There is one group of people, of course, that the BBC does not care a jot about offending - or spreading hate-filled lies about.

Yes, it's the English.

The BBC views the English as the pits of the UK, and no slur is too low for them to report when it comes to us.

Remember
this little gem from anti-English bigot Jack Straw, part of NuLabour's liberal elite?

Cross-party politicians have warned of growing English nationalism following devolution, airing their views in a BBC programme.

Straw positively ranted about the English, what he said is inaccurate, offensive and bigoted, but Auntie Beeb happily reported it. No words were tweaked to protect our feelings.

And it seems that Auntie is quite happy to be racist again - exchanging the word "Muslim" for "Asian" in one instance - in its determination to keep the words "Muslim extremists" or, heaven forbid, "Muslim terrorists" out of the news.

I have the greatest sympathy with ordinary, everyday British Muslims, worried about the situation here. But Auntie tampering with the news is just plain wrong.

Just as the organisation's bigoted and irrational hatred of the English is just plain wrong.

The BBC is the arsehole of British broadcasting. It stinks.

UPDATE...

Sue Campbell...

Auntie Beeb recently made a series casting doubt on Christianity - the series was made by a Muslim. This is... what?... 3% of the population?

I am a Christian. England was a Christian country for many years. It is part of our history. The BBC are so hypocritical to disregard the feelings of Christians. No equivalent series will be made on the Muslim faith.

Trouble is Auntie constantly crawls to this single, tiny minority, whilst treating the rest of us like crap, and this makes me feel very negative. Not towards individual Muslims. But I'd like to display some of my "violent" Englishness, as the Bigot Straw puts it, and smash a few windows at the BBC's Broadcasting House.

They force us to pay them so that they can denigrate us and look down their noses at us.

It's not just the BBC which stinks, Chris - the whole bloody country does - from the Scottish Raj to Muslim groups writing letters to Scottish Bigot Blair asking that foreign policy be changed so that we won't be blown up by their fellow Muslims.

The country's in a heck of a mess.

Hmmm... don't get too down, gal. I always find a hot, sweet cuppa and a look at this daft 80s blog helps...

Failing that... CHOCOLATE - LOTS OF IT!

Trouble is, we're not listened to. We're helpless.

UPDATE 2...

Greg from Cumbria...

I always have to laugh when Jack Straw tries to make out that English MPs are still in charge in England and of the funding formula for Scotland. Of course, he never mentions how much higher public spending in Scotland is - or foundation hospitals or top up fees in England and the role Scottish MPs had in imposing them on us!

What a liar and spin master the Strawman is.

Does anybody know why he hates England so much?

UPDATE 2 - 13/8/2006

Slyv from Salford...

The BBC regards those defining themselves as English as the great unwashed. It is an organisation steeped in snobbery, an elite and illogical bunch of idiots, undermining stability and good feelings about this country (heard them on the subject of the British Empire?) and brown necking extremists.

And as for Jack Straw - don't get me started!

I remember the speech he gave to the Hansard Society (I posted on it here). Did the audience just take the nonsense he spouted? Was there a question and answer session afterwards? Was his tosh rejected?

Sue Campbell again...

The BBC is not fit for purpose. It is funded mostly by money from England, but actively attacks the English and pours hated on the concept of England at every opportunity, whilst also encouraging terrorists with mealy mouthed crap.

We should not have to fund the BBC. It is the enemy of every single person living in England today, breaking down our unity, pouring scorn on our history and encouraging hatred against England and the English amongst recent arrivals.

Of course, the BBC treats Scotland and Wales very differently. Perhaps a lot of Auntie's anti-English bigotry stems from those two countries?

Unfortunately, those countries provide only a tiny amount of the Beeb's funding!

The BBC should be working for England too, not pursuing its own bizarre, racist agenda.

I agree, Sue - the BBC does not serve England's interests, quite the reverse. But the organisation is in the Government's pocket and it is dictated that we have to pay the fee. I don't watch any modern TV - only DVDs, but I STILL have to pay the licence fee.

SICK.

Greg...

Channel Five weather is at it now - referring to "nations and regions"...

"We'll look at the nations first, then we'll do the regions".

Nations and regions are such a bizarre concept outside the Scottish Raj's mindset. Look at the huge display of Cross of St George flags recently displayed by people who know that England is a nation. Are there backhanders going on? I don't understand it...

Channel 5 stinks to high heaven anyway. But in these days of NuLabour quangrocracy, I think it's a fair bet there's some government influence here.

You're right - "nations and regions" is a bizarre Scottish Rajist concept, fresh from Gordon Brown's finest select cuts of crap, and for Channel 5 to be attempting to brainwash its viewer (s) into believing in them smells mighty fishy...

England is the Only UK Nation to be denied a "miracle" bone cancer drug freely available in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland...

Via the CEP News Blog comes this...

England denied miracle bone cancer drug

By EMILY COOK,

Daily Mail

Bone cancer victims in England will not be given a life-prolonging drug - although it is available to patients in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The drug, Velcade, which can put the cancer into remission and dramatically improve life expectancy, is also available in every other developed country in the world.

But yesterday the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence refused to approve Velcade for use in England on the NHS, saying it is not 'cost-effective'.

We know that the health services elsewhere in the so-called UK are far better funded than in England.

Surely this should not be so? Jack Straw keeps saying that "England will be the big loser" if the UK splits up. Tosh, of course. He will tell any old lie to press his point home.

There are many reasons why Straw should be regarded as a corrupt spinner.

If the man was in front of me now, I would say to him that the NHS in the UK should be the same for all, not operate on an apartheid system - routinely discriminating against every man, woman and child in England.

People want good health care, most want to live as long as possible.

My dear old grandmother used to say: "Every drop of life is sweet".

It's heart warming that this Government agrees with her - at least if you happen to be a citizen of Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.

Is this one of the ways that the UK benefits England, Mr Straw?

How I wish he would answer.

Where is the BBC in all this? Have they reported on it? The last time I saw anything on the BBC News about variations in availability of NHS Drugs in the so-called "UK" (which always works against England), Scotland had been conveniently lopped off the map shown on screen and was not referred to!

Is Auntie doing the right thing and keeping the licence payers informed?

Let me know if you spot anything!

In the meantime, read more and join the discussion at the
CEP News Blog...

UPDATE...

Hi to Sue Campbell!

After the Herceptin scandal, this doesn't surprise me. Of course the government doesn't care if people die in England. This government is composed of Scottish and Welsh racists, heaven alone knows what the Northern Irish MPs think, and English MPs are content to sit back and take it for the sake of "Britain" and an easy life.

I've been having chats recently to one of the Blair Government's new slave workers. That's right, a young Polish lad, recently arrived here, happy to work as a bus driver for absolutely shit money. He hasn't been here that long, but already he is saying to me gravely: "Things are very expensive here!"

"Especially on your money!" I always reply. The company is famous for its shit wages and most of the workforce are recent immigrants.

What will happen to them when they want to settle down? Start a family? Unemployment is steadily rising, and somebody (probably another new arrival here) will be willing to take their place. But what better-paid job will be there be for them to provide for their new responsibilities?

And Labour was traditionally "for" the workers!

Anyway, I've had several conversations with the Polish bus driver - he's a bit of a ray of sunshine in the morning, and he's enthusiastic about "England" and "the English". Well, tomorrow I think I'm going to take him a scan of the "Daily Mail" article on the bone cancer drug.

The Government relies on the traditionally quiescent population of this country and the fact that the massed new arrivals don't yet know what is going on to mistreat us, steal our money, take away our democracy, and let us die for want of care and medication.

It's time to start informing recent immigrants what they've come to.

I think we all should make a point of it.

It's the English pleb that's had the shitty deal right through the Union. There were Scotland and Wales with their Secretaries of State, English MPs refraining from voting on certain of their issues and massive subsidies. Scottish industry was going down the toilet in the 1970s - they can't blame it all on Thatcher.

And as for the Poll Tax - many Scots were in favour of it. Didums, did they have it a year longer than us? My heart bleeds. At least we weren't letting their people die for want of medication freely available in England.

We must spread the word about the Scottish Raj and the evil British State, not just keep it to ourselves - let's tell the new arrivals!

Tonight I'm BURNING A UNION FLAG.

UPDATE 2

28/7/2006

Welcome back to Greg...

NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) used to be a UK-wide organisation. These are the bods that have made the current outrageous recommendation about the Velcade treatment.

Judging by their blurb, I don't think they've absorbed the fact that devolution has given Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland their own powers.

Who is behind NICE's decision to let people in England die? Not anybody representing the interests of that country's people, that's for sure.

And the Scottish Raj-dominated UK Government gets to accept the recommendation!

We need our own health bodies, our own government for England.

We're being run by evil, racist bastards, happy to let us die.

Muddying The Waters: Jack Straw Lies For Britain (again)...

Thanks to John for this quote:

Mess about with this, and we’d see too the progressive disintegration of the Union. England has benefited most by this in amplifying England’s power worldwide. England would be the big loser.

Yep, it's Jack Straw again, writing in the Lancashire Evening Telegraph about devolution, and why people in England should certainly NOT be treated on a par with their Scottish and Welsh counterparts.

His argument falls apart as soon as you look at it. There's no need to even prod it.

How can a country which does not exist become the "big loser" by being granted recognition, a voice?

As for the Union "amplifying England's power worldwide" - when was that? At the time of the British Empire? How long ago was that? And surely dear little Scotland, disproportionately active at the time of Empire, felt at least just as much benefit as England from the venture? And what about Wales and Ireland?

Whatever the ins-and-outs, that's in the past, all gone - not the basis for modern day decision making on devolution issues. So what the heck is Straw playing at?

The man talks transparent nonsense - relying on the apathy of the electorate not to examine his endless stream of anti-English clap trap.

There are no depths the snivelling government toad will not sink to in his attempts to ensure that the people of England remain under the thumb of the British State.

The game's up, Straw man.

John has more and the link to the original article.

No sooner do I press "publish" than Sue zooms in...

UPDATE...

Sue Campbell...

Straw's ploy seems obvious to me. Not only does he regard the English as being violent, but he also regards us as being Imperialists - and fik (intended spelling). So he thinks we'll be swayed by his out-of-date Imperialist arguments.

We won't grasp the true facts - that we're being dictated to and shafted at every turn.

Of course, the British Government is the true Imperialist force in this country.

Jack Straw is a sick, twisted and utterly evil little man.

Jack Straw - Rewriting History...

Here's a bit of Jack Straw's recent speech to the Hansard Society - with a few interjections from yours truly...

I'm in the solid, Mr Straw in the italics...

Let us be clear. The United Kingdom – Great Britain and Northern Ireland – is a union which works to the equal benefit of all four nations of the union.

How can that be? England has no nationally representative bodies and is being broken up into "regions", despite the North East, the only area allowed a referendum, massively voting "NO" to that "proposal". Do you know Gordon Brown, John Prescott and Ruth Kelly, Mr Straw?

The whole is greater than the sum of the parts. But the other three nations have not done England a favour by joining the union. Historically, England called the shots to achieve a union because the union was seen as a way, amongst others things, of amplifying England’s power worldwide.

Hmmm... But Scotland wanted to expand outwards too, didn't it? It had already failed once. And according to the BBC's Scotland's Empire, the Scots were disproportionately active in the Empire. Scotland also retained much of its own civic identity post-Union, its law and education system, etc. Did England really "call the shots"? Surely England submerged itself in the Union most of all the UK nations? Why try to rewrite history and present England in an unfavourable light, Mr Straw?

And the reverse would certainly be true. A broken-up United Kingdom would not be in the interests of Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, but especially not England.

Why? England is currently allowed no official existence, we do not have equal representation, we live with the Barnett Formula, the West Lothian Question. The Union is being run for a racist elite. Everything works against the interests of the people of England.

Our voting power in the European Union would diminish.

Whose? England has no voting power as a nation in the European Union. It does not exist.

We’d slip down in the world league GDP tables. Our case for staying in the G8 would diminish and there could easily be an assault on our permanent seat in the UN Security Council.

Oh please, stop being silly.

No wonder that Philip Stephens of the Financial Times described Mr Cameron’s proposals as a “reckless preference for political gimmickry”. Reckless they are. Unworkable and irresponsible too.

There we agree. The only way to restore democracy to England is the establishment of an English Parliament.

Mr Straw certainly doesn't like England or the people of this country. Remember when he spouted off about how we'd subdued the other UK nations and what a "propensity for violence" we have? It's all
here.

One or two other parts of the speech are illuminating. For instance, Mr Straw reveals himself as part of that self-loving 1960s youth elite - declaring it the decade which saw the start of the breakdown of the class system in this country. Weren't the origins of that actually in the social changes generated by two World Wars and felt even more greatly during the yuppie ("money, not breeding") revolution of the 1980s? Of course not!

Jack Straw believes that Scottish MPs should be able to foist laws onto England - and that Tony Blair is right to use them as lobby fodder.

Jack Straw believes that Scotland can produce laws discriminating against people from England who wish to study there.

Jack Straw believes that people in England should have lower standards of care and poorer public services - and have to pay for things that are free elsewhere.

Jack Straw is a self-serving traitor. Pure and simple. He values his career above the well-being of his constituents or the democratic rights of his fellow country people.

UPDATE...

Slyv from Salford...

Jack Straw may present as being mild mannered and self-effacing, but his mind is fast and devious and he has spent so much time with his head stuck up Tony Blair's arse he now has a permanently brown neck.

UPDATE...

Sue Campbell...

Jack Straw is a liar and twister of the first order. This is no surprise. He really is beneath contempt. Keep drawing the big, fat salary, Jack!

Blair Government Forces Nuclear Power Plants on to England - Scotland gets off Scot Free...

Horror in 1986 (click on image for larger view). Twenty years on, Blair's Government plans to impose a new generation of nuclear power stations on England. And take away local authorities' right to object.

From today's
Scotsman:

Nuclear power is the future, says Blair - but not in Scotland

JAMES KIRKUP POLITICAL EDITOR

Key quote " welcome the emphasis the review puts on renewables. Scotland has vast potential to exploit energy sources like marine and wind power," he said. " I have no doubt Scotland's most important contribution to the UK's energy future can and will be through renewables." - Jack McConnell

Story in full

TONY Blair yesterday paved the way for a new generation of nuclear power stations - but only in England.

Effectively formalising a cross-Border energy divide, the government's long-awaited Energy Review yesterday confirmed expectations that ministers have dropped previous objections to new nuclear plants and will grant permission for international energy giants to construct up
to ten new reactors south of the Border.

Less than three years after another policy review declared that nuclear power was not a viable option for Britain's future energy needs, yesterday's 215-page study found that nuclear power "is a potentially economic source of electricity" that produces only low levels of carbon dioxide, the gas scientists say leads to global warming.

A new energy pricing regime will be introduced to give nuclear operators a financial edge. Planning rules will also be streamlined to make it harder for campaigners to block new plants.
But the planning changes will apply only south of the Border and Scottish ministers will retain their veto on any new stations in Scotland. That prompted Jack McConnell, the First Minister, to claim last night that the review had cleared the way to a nuclear-free Scotland.

So the England-hating Blair Government has now decided that we're getting a new generation of nuclear power plants. But, according to the Scotsman, "only in England". And new laws will be passed to help block local authorities and campaigners who wish to protest.

But Scotland will not be having any new nuclear power stations. One law for us, another for Blair's homeland.

The inclusion of the picture of the Times front page from 1986, headlining Chernobyl, may seem a little overly dramatic to some. But I make no apologies. I resent the undemocratic way that this is going to be forced upon us, I resent the fact that meaningful protest is going to be made far more difficult and I resent the fact that Scotland, home to the arrogant Raj ruling England, is to get off Scot-free.

This is a very serious matter. Yes, think about Chernobyl. Nuclear power is not an issue where the public or local authorities should be muzzled.

The Scots will be reaping the benefits, but with none of the risks associated (e.g. leukemia pockets) with living close to nuclear power plants.

The Government's actions are once again racist and undemocratic. They depend on voter apathy. But whether you approve of nuclear power or not, I hope that you will join with me in writing to your MPs and others concerned to express your outrage at the way this is being handled. The democratic law for Scotland/dictatorship for England ethos, and the "streamlining" of planning rules to bulldoze over objections from local authorities are another nail in the coffin for democratic rule in England.

Blair and co are simply making the need for an English parliament more and more obvious.

UPDATE...

Stewart Thomas writes:

I've heard that Wales may be getting them as well...

Not sure about that, Stewart. I haven't checked out any Welsh sites.

I would imagine that the Welsh electorate, Rhodri Morgan and co would have opinions on the matter which they would voice through Wales' National Assembly - and that these opinions will be heard and acted on by the UK Government.

UPDATE 2

Sue Campbell pops in...

I thought it was a joke at first. So, the Scottish Raj ruling England will respect Scotland's democratic right to veto nuclear power stations in that country but take away the democratic right of local authorities in England to protest? And dear Mr Darling, an MP representing a Scottish constituency, totally unaccountable to people in England, is overseeing the details.

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

And Paul writes...

Blair would say they're safe. So why doesn't his own country, bonny Scotland, want them?

UPDATE 3...

GWG writes...

Don't you think that the use of the Chernobyl "Times" illustration is a little over-the-top? What are you trying to do, terrify people? If we end up with nuke plants in England I think the Raj will have done us a favour. Plenty of lovely electricity to sell when we are independent.

I make no apology for the Chernobyl illustration, GWG. That terrible event occurred twenty years ago. And now the Scottish Raj believes that it can force England to have new nuclear power plants, altering our laws to quash dissent. Memories are very short.

Perhaps we do need nuclear power. Perhaps not.

Three years ago it seemed we didn't.

Many will claim that nuclear power is one of the safest, cleanest forms of energy.

Maybe so.

But when things go wrong, the effects can be absolutely devastating. Let's not forget that.

I believe that this is the final weighty straw which breaks the camel's back. If, after consultation, the electorate in England agrees with the nuclear option, then fine. But we must be consulted. Scottish dictate should not be happening at all - but even by our Imperial Rulers' standards this is definitely one step too far.
